Last July 15, Lolit Solis defended actor-turned-Congressman, City 5th District Representative Alfred Vargas in an Instagram post after he chose to inhibit himself from voting on ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal.
The franchise renewal bid was then junked by the House of Representatives Committee on Legislative Franchises.
The veteran journalist, who is also Vargas’ manager, shared her thoughts regarding the bashing that Vargas and other congressmen are receiving for their move on the franchise.
She opened the statement with: “Hindi ko maintindihan iyon bashing na tinatanggap ng mga congressman na involved sa issue ng franchise renewal ng ABS CBN, Salve.
“Ok, nag-inhibit si cong. Alfred Vargas sa kanyang boto, so what’s wrong? Ayaw niya ng YES dahil mahal niya ang showbiz, ayaw niya rin ng NO dahil na bother siya ng ilang issues, so Inhibit siya. What did he betray? Nangako ba siya kahit kanino kung ano ang iboboto niya? Tinakot ba siya kaya siya walang pinili panigan? May natanggap ba siya o tinanggihan kaya naging undecided sa kanyang sagot ? Wala at hindi ang sagot sa lahat ng tanong. Hindi siya nangako, kaya walang betrayal.”
Solis concluded said Vargas just followed his conscience and not his loyalty towards someone or anywhere.
She added, “Hindi siya naduwag, ayaw lang niyang gawin ang isang bagay na half hearted siya. Ayaw niya guluhin siya ng konsensiya niya sa pagpili ng hindi buo ang puso at utak niya. The commitment of Cong. Alfred Vargas is to his conscience, hindi kahit kanino o saan.”
She added, “Bashing him, judging him, bullying him will not change kung ano ang nangyari. Sumali man siya sa 11 talo parin, sumali man siya sa 70, dagdag bilang lang. Tanggapin na natin tapos na ang laban, huwag na natin ipilit pa ang nangyari na hindi na mababago. #classiclolita #takeitperminutemeganun #73naako”
Lolit Solis is the manager of Alfred Vargas. As an actor, he started his career as a member of ABS-CBN Star Magic as part of Star Circle Batch 10. He had a role in the original run of Pangako Sa’yo.
But this Ateneo de Manila graduate was acting in theatre long before the talent scouts lured him to showbiz. television. His breakthrough role came in the film Bridal Shower. After this, Vargas moved to the GMA Network where he featured in three shows in Philippine television: the daytime drama series Daisy Siete, the fantasy series Encantadia (as Aquil), and its prequel series Etheria (as Amarro, Aquil’s father).
He then was elected councilor in the 2nd District of Quezon City in 2010. In the year 2013, he was won a Congressional Seat representing the newly created Fifth District of Quezon City. In 2016 Vargas ran for another term and ran unopposed. He garnered 85% of the votes, a very high statistic considering he was an unopposed candidate.
