On Wednesday, July 1, 2020, former Kapuso star Iwa Moto posted an open letter to the government via Instagram.
The open letter criticized the government’s actions on the ABS-CBN franchise rather than prioritizing other concerns like Manila Electric Company (Meralco) for overcharging consumers. She added that life now is hard and being made more difficult.
Aileen Quimado Iwamoto, known by her stage name Iwa Moto, is a former Kapuso star, model, and reality television personality. She was the first runner up in the third season of a reality-based talent search of GMA Network, StarStruck. Currently, she is the girlfriend of Panfilo Lacson Jr. son of Senator Panfilo Lacson Sr.
As stated on the actress’ Instagram, “Dear Government, Kesa ABS-CBN ang hinahabol niyo at pinag iinitan try niyo kayang silipin ang Meralco? Kasi wagas ang bill ng mga tao! Mahirap na nga ang buhay pinapahirap pa lalo.”
One of the major issues being tackled by the government is the expired franchise of ABS-CBN which is currently off the air following a Cease and Desist Order from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC). This gained various reactions from celebrities, officials, and netizens.
Just recently some of the Kapamilya shows returned to air through Sky Cable and Kapamilya Channel. The NTC has since issued another cease and desist order to halt TV Plus and SkyDirect operations.
The actress expressed her disappointment over the government’s failure to focus on what should be prioritized rather than running after a network.
