The post was captioned as, “Nasaan ang konsensya?! Napakaraming Pilipino ang walang wala at mas lalong mawawalan pa. Paano mo maipagmamalaki ang ganitong bagay?”
Christopher commented, “Brooo really??” which garnered different interpretations from the netizens. While some saw the comment as an act of shock or disbelief by the news, some netizens saw it as something offending and sarcastic.
An Instagram user blamed Christopher being a DDS (Die-hard Duterte Supporter) that’s why the actor couldn’t see the foolishness that his president is doing to the country. The netizen expressed his dismay over the fact that Christopher and his wife Gladys used to work with ABS-CBN network.
Another netizen also reacted to Christopher’s comment and hoped that the actor would not experience the things that the ABS-CBN employees suffered.
“TANDAAN MO BILOG ANG MUNDO LALO SA MASAMANG TAO KATULAD MO. SHAME ON YOU,” the netizen said.
Some netizens also pointed out Christopher is a member of the controversial INC (Iglesia Ni Cristo) just like Rep. Rodante Marcoleta who is against the ABS-CBN franchise renewal.
The Instagram user questioned the actor’s seemingly being ungrateful to ABS-CBN since the network contributed a lot to both Christopher and Gladys’ careers. The netizen said that Christopher should have just kept his silence for the sake of all the employees who were deeply hurt.
Another Instagram user also talked about how Christopher was shameless for he claims that the actor does not care for ABS-CBN employees. He pointed out that his wife Gladys has done so much for the ABS-CBN network.
Gladys came to the defense of her husband and said that the netizens have no right to denounce her husband because they don’t exactly know what Christopher meant when he posted his comment. Gladys answered that the basher should be the one who should be ashamed for being rude.
“You have no right to talk to my husband like that!” Gladys said.
“He is entitled to his reaction or opinion,” she added.
Gladys also talked about how quick the people are to judge without really knowing the meaning behind something. She said that people are being so affected by something so small and that they shouldn’t be so judgemental right away. The actress said that she is not restricting people their rights to speak about the issue, she just wanted to point out not to disrespect her husband.
She said not to include her husband’s religion in the issue and just learn to respect other people’s opinions. She said that both she and her husband care for the network and all its employees. She also mentioned both of them know Carlo Aquino personally that’s why Christopher commented on Carlo’s post.

Christopher already spoke up about his comment by replying to an Instagram user. He confirmed that his comment was not sarcastic, rather a show of his shock to the network’s decision to lay off some of its workers. He said that even though he doesn’t have a contract with ABS-CBN anymore, it doesn’t mean that he is against the network.
“tama coz di nman po ako contract ng abs cbn pero it doesn’t mean na against ako sa knila,” he wrote.
With the shutdown of ABS-CBN that forced them to cease operations of some of its business, the network will implement a retrenchment program covering ABS-CBN and its subsidiaries that will be effective on August 31, 2020. The network said that the retrenchment program is the only way to make sure that some of the ABS-CBN employees will retain their jobs.
“As much as it hurts us to implement this retrenchment program, this is the only way to ensure the continued employment of the rest of our Kapamilya,” the network said.
The media giant said that they would do everything that they can to ‘mitigate the pain’ of all its workers especially when the loss of their job is amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The network said that they would pay out separation and retirement benefits to its workers and even provide job placement programs.
“We are doing all we can to mitigate the pain that will be felt by those affected, including paying out separation and retirement benefits and providing job placement programs,” ABS-CBN stated.
“The loss of their jobs comes at a time when the uncertain and perilous impact of the COVID-19 pandemic further makes our decision truly difficult, but inevitable,” they added.
Gladys Reyes started her humble beginnings in ABS-CBN when she portrayed the character of Clara the lead villainess from the ’90s ABS-CBN hit series, Mara Clara, with Judy Ann Santos. It was also where she met and fell in love with her co-star and now-husband Christopher Roxas.
