The Facebook Pages of Reps. Mike Defensor, Luis Raymond “Lray” Villafuerte, and Villafuerte’s son Governor Migz Villafuerte were once celebrity fan pages.
Netizens surprisingly discovered the history of these political pages. The older Villafuerte’s page was once a Jake Vargas (a GMA artist) fan page while his son’s was previously named “McDonald’s Sexret files”.
Defensor’s page was once Doc Willie Ong page.
Recently, Bea Alonzo shared on Instagram that her fan pages were offered money to sell their accounts.
“Had to post this. Woke up to these messages from my supporters. I wonder why these people would offer to buy these accounts all of a sudden? For what?” Bea asked.
Angel Locsin received the same message from her fan pages and was also alarmed by these sudden offers.
While the actresses didn’t mention any possible motives for the offers, but the abovementioned discovery of netizens has many thinking a politician might be looking to boost his follower count all at once.
Moreover, some claim that this is a poll strategy of politicians. As reported by CNN, a cybersecurity expert said that it may be a strategy for the upcoming 2022 elections.
Basically, these politicians will purchase an established account with numbers of followers as this can help speed up the spread of information online.
“Buying a fan page, will immediately if you want to disseminate something whether true or fake, you can do that in one post in a fan page,” the expert said.
