Singer-songwriter Daryl Ong recently deactivated his personal Facebook account after engaging in a word war with several netizens.
The post which triggered netizens to react was his statement about the possibility of Metro Manila returning to enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) due to “rallies”.
Ong claimed that the COVID-19 cases will continue to rise since people in “rallies” are enjoined to gather together.
“Mukhang mag E-ECQ na naman daw? Ayos rally pa more guys,” he stated in his now-deleted post.
However, his remark drew the ire of some netizens since his claim is supposedly false. Accordingly, studies have shown “rallies” do not cause a spike in coronavirus cases.
In research conducted by the National Bureau of Economic Research, there was no significant increase in coronavirus infections following the three weeks of protest.
Doctors and even the World Health Organization (WHO) believes that even in a pandemic public protests are important.
Ong on the other hand, continue to sarcastically answer back and stood by his claim.
His contradictions did not sit well with netizens and journalist Lolito Go lambasted him saying that he is a public figure thus he should be responsible enough for what he posts.
He said, “..With great influence comes great responsibility. Study if you can. And thesis kasi ng post mo eh ganito: ECQ is being considered again dahil sa pagtaas ng COVID cases, and that is because of the rallies. Hindi mo pwedeng ikaila na iyan ang point mo. Saan mo napulot yan?”

ABS-CBN’s employees, artists, and supporters have been staging noise barrages in front of the ABS-CBN compound in Quezon City to air their sentiments of Congress who denied the franchise even after all violations were addressed and cleared up.
This was succeeded by a “SONAgkaisa” protest held at the University of the Philippines in Diliman during the fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Duterte.
It can be recalled that last June 15, Ong was reportedly banned from ABS-CBN with fellow artist Bugoy Drilon due to a discussion that led to the ongoing network franchise issue.
Despite the facts and criticisms, some netizens still supported his claim.
