Angel Locsin posted on her Instagram an explanation of what she meant when she called out her fellow Kapamilya artists who remain silent while ABS-CBN is in crisis.
The actress has been very vocal in the campaign supporting ABS-CBN, taking to the streets her call to restore the network on-air and save the livelihood of its employees.
In her post, she explained that her demand for her fellow artists to speak up doesn’t mean that they have to join in the noise barrage as well. She said that Kapamilya artists can show their support in many ways and not just through attending the rally.
“Uulitin ko, pag hinihikayat magsalita, hindi ibig sabihin nun mag rally na sa kalsada,” she said.
There are many ways to show support. Iba yung ayaw lang talaga,” she added.
The 35-year-old actress asked for forgiveness if her statement on calling out Kapamilya artists to speak up has offended anyone. She apologized if she ended up hurting anyone, but she said that she does not apologize when she asked artists to speak up. The point of her call-out is so that Kapamilya artists will be able to spread awareness to the people immediately as artists have the capability to reach a large audience.
“Kung may na-offend, I apologize dahil nasaktan ko kayo. Pero hindi dahil sa sinabi kong magsalita kayo. Dahil kailangan talaga nating magsalita ngayon,” the actress said.
“Uulitin ko, magkaiba po ang magsalita sa lumabas,” she added.
Angel pointed out that the need to speak is crucial especially with what the Filipino people are facing right now. With the shutdown of the ABS-CBN network, employees losing their jobs became vulnerable in this pandemic. People lost their means of income and are struggling to support the daily needs of their families. Angel hopes that the government will realize this and give her home network another chance.
She said that Kapamilya artists will be able to help greatly if they would just use their voices to speak up regarding on the ABS-CBN issue. She also said that speaking up if is very different from going out. Artists can stay at their homes but they should use other platforms to speak up just like social media.
Angel ended her post by calling out for unity and said, “Magkaisa tayo at ‘wag magpagamit.”
The Kapamilya actress also made a similar post and said that no one is asking anybody to go to a rally.
“No one asked you to go to a rally,” she said.
“Obviously, you don’t need to go out to use your voice for the voiceless,” she added.
She expressed her frustrations with people who are making up excuses as to why they failed to speak up regarding the issue. She said that she is disgusted by those who are still trying to save face while some people are fighting for their lives because of the network’s shutdown.
“But making up an excuse to save face at the expense of those who are fighting for their lives is purely disgusting,” she said.
Many people believed that Angel’s post was an answer to what new Darna actress Jane De Leon recently posted on Instagram explaining why she couldn’t go out to join the rally supporting the ABS-CBN franchise.

Jane posted about how she sympathizes with the people who lost their jobs with the shut down of the ABS-CBN network. She said that she was not able to participate in the rally because still prioritizes her safety as the country is suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“My support to the current crisis that the network is facing right now is not just measured by going out in the streets in this time of pandemic. Alam kong para sa nakakarami sa atin, masakit ang closure ng ABS-CBN. Nakikiisa at nakikisimpatya rin po ako sa mga kapwa ko Kapamilya na nawalan ng kabuhayan,” Jane said.
“However, let us not forget that in the bigger picture, we are still at risk because we all have an invisible enemy to deal with. Our health and that of our loved ones are at stake. As the COVID infection rate in our country continues to rise, hospitals and facilities are nearing, if not reached, full capacity,” she added.
Amid the netizen’s speculation over Angel Locsin and Jane de Leon’s dispute, the past and present “Darna” actresses appeared to be on good terms as they met via video call Wednesday night.
Jane posted a screenshot of their call which also included Kapamilya star Iza Calzado on her Instagram story along with heart emojis in the iconic colors of the ABS-CBN logo.
There were no further details on the video call but with the post of the ‘New Darna’, Jane abolished the netizens’ assumed animosity between her and Angel.
