Kapamilya star Aljur Abrenica has explained his stand on the ABS-CBN shutdown issue.
In a recent statement during a zoom conference for the movie Escape from Mamasapano, Aljur confirmed his support for the renewal of the ABS-CBN franchise, however he’s also quick to add that he’s not keen on fighting for the network.
According to him, it’s not that he’s silent about the issue but he believes that it is the network’s fight and it is beyond him.
“Hindi naman sa hindi ako vocal. Actually, pro-franchise po ako. Siyempre, that’s my mother network now. Marami rin silang naitulong sa akin. Pero it’s beyond me. Ibig kong sabihin, their fight is their fight,” Aljur said
Just like other stars who have a soft stand on the ABS-CBN issue, Aljur also used the excuse “I don’t know the details” as a response to the clamor for them to speak up and take a strong stand for the embattled network.
“Matagal na ‘yung nangyayari. I don’t know the details… Ako, bilang isang artista, hindi ko alam. Ang alam ko lang, yung behind camera, so I’m really looking forward…” he said.
“How I see this scenario is the opportunity talaga to cleanse and the opportunity to get better as a network, and also as a sign of government. Every case naman na ganito, may opportunity to make everything better. ‘Yun na lang ang tinitingnan ko.
“Para malaman niyo ang side ko, pro-franchise ako, pero it’s beyond me. May mas malalim pa kesa sa ipaglalaban ko sa franchise,” Aljur added.
Although a Kapamilya star since 2017, Aljur is also the son-in-law of Robin Padilla who is a known die-hard Duterte supporter.
President Rodrigo Duterte is said to be the driving force behind the denial of the ABS-CBN franchise.
Since 2016, Duterte has been vocal about doing his best to block the network’s franchise renewal. In one occasion, Duterte even advised Lopezes, the owners of ABS-CBN, to just sell the network because he will make sure that the renewal will not push through.
