June 1, 2020, Monday, veteran actress turned Batangas 6th District representative Vilma Santos stood up for ABS-CBN through her Sponsorship Speech for House Bill 4305.
The Congresswoman defended the network by emphasizing its contributions to Filipinos over the past years. She made mention that the media company was a great source of information through news, entertainment, educational shows. She also emphasized the network’s contribution to charity works.
Ate Vi, on behalf of her colleagues, expressed how the shut down of ABS-CBN has greatly affected many people. As an actress turned congresswoman, she seeks for her fellow lawmakers from the Committee on Legislative Franchises to have a broader understanding regarding the ABS-CBN Franchise.
Santos, also brought up what the network’s CEO and President Carlo Katigbak promised. The CEO swore that the network if given an opportunity to renew its franchise will strive harder to become a better company.
She also emphasized that the network had already cleared of violations by the relevant government agencies.
“Narinig natin ang pahayag ng iba’t ibang ahensya ng gobyerno na walang nilabag na batas o regulasyon ang ABS-CBN.”
Before being elected last 2016 as Representative for the Lone District of Lipa, Batangas, Maria Rosa Vilma Santos-Recto was a highly distinguished Filipino actress.
She started her acting career in 1963 when she portrayed Trudis in the film Trudis Liit under Sampaguita Pictures. Her last film project was the 2016 Star Cinema film Everything About Her where she played the role of Dr. Vivian Rabaya with co-stars Angel Locsin and Xian Lim.
