In the midst of the heated debate of Congress on ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal, President Rodrigo Duterte granted Golden Broadcast Professional Inc. its 25-year franchise.
Based on the post of Official Gazette on June 29, Duterte signed RA No.11477 on June 25 that grants the GDPI its 25-year franchise.
The franchise renewal of media companies has been a big issue since ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal is still languishing in Congress.
At a recent House hearing on ABS-CBN franchise, Buhay Rep. Lito Atienza said that House inquiry on the giant network is a “fishing expedition”. He also accused some of his colleagues of refusing to listen to “duly authorized” government agencies.
It has been almost two months since ABS-CBN has been off the air after receiving the cease and desist order from the National Telecommunication Commission on May 5.
Several ABS-CBN employees are in danger of losing their jobs in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic due to the network shutdown.
