Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach is open to reconnecting with her contemporary, Bea Alonzo after years of not getting in touch.
In an online interview with The Philippine Pageantry on June 1, the former beauty queen admitted that she lost touch with Bea through time especially when she took a break from showbiz to pursue pageantry.
“Siyempre hindi ko na siya nakakausap kasi parang naghiwalay na yung path ng mga buhay namin,” Pia revealed.
According to her, the last time they met was during the Star Magic Ball 2019 last September, though they have not had the chance to talk. Even so, the 30-year-old beauty queen is open to reconnecting with the 32-year-old actress “if she’s up for it.”
She said, “I saw her at the Star Magic Ball very briefly, but I didn’t get to come close to say ‘hi’ to her. Although I would like to say hi and speak to her and reconnect again if she’s up for it.”
As she recalled her career beginnings, both in showbiz and in the pageant scene, Wurtzbach was asked if she ever felt jealous about Alonzo’s early success and fame.
I think, dun din sa episode ng MMK na napanood nila, that it came…
“I guess people got the impression that I was jealous or parang galit ako sa kanya, pero hindi…” she added, referring to an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya aired on June 3, 2017, which dramatized her life story.
Aside from the fact that Liza Soberano was picked to portray as Wurtzbach, the beauty queen’s life story trended especially because Alonzo also appeared in the episode.
Further, she said, “I was more, parang… hindi naman. Honestly. Tagal na rin, e. Wala na rin naman akong dahilan para maghabol pa. Hindi naman sa ganun. Magaling talaga siya, e. Hindi ko kaya yun. Yun yung galing niya. Magaling talaga siya.
“Tsaka na-distract na rin ako sa journey ko sa Binibini…” she continued.
Alonzo and Wurtzbach debuted in showbiz almost at the same time through Star Magic, ABS-CBN’s talent management arm.
The former was part of the Star Magic batch 10, while the latter was part of the Batch 11.
They co-starred in the teen drama series K2BU broadcasted by ABS-CBN Network in 2002 along with their contemporaries like Angelene Aguilar and Shaina Magdayao.
Alonzo tasted early success in her acting career, making her one of the successful actresses of her generation.
Meanwhile, Wurtzbach took a break from showbiz and started joining pageants. However, her road to the Miss Universe crown was not easy.
She joined Binibining Pilipinas three times before she won the Miss Universe Philippines title in 2015. She later brought pride to the country as she was crowned as Miss Universe 2015 among the 80 candidates who joined the prestigious pageant. After more than 40 years, the Philippines had a new Miss Universe.
When her reign as Miss Universe ended, the beauty queen finally had a chance to reunite with Alonzo as they both worked under ABS-CBN.
In 2018, however, Wurtzbach’s name was dragged into a controversy involving Bea and her then-boyfriend, Gerald Anderson.
This after netizens, noticed that Bea deleted some of her pictures with Gerald and allegedly unfollowed Wurtzbach on Instagram.
It was around the time that Anderson and Wurtzbach starred together in the 2018 romantic film, My Perfect You.
While some rumors claimed that Alonzo felt jealous, some also claimed that she and Anderson because of Wurtzbach. These rumors have been cleared by both parties.
At that time, Wurtzbach was dating racer Marlon Stockinger but separated more than a year later. On the other hand, Alonzo and Anderson remained a couple until their controversial breakup in 2019.
