Kapamilya artist and singer Marlo Mortel admits that his loss in the Celebrity Edition of Tawag ng Tanghalan really broke his spirit.
On June 2, the young Kapamilya star talked about his heartbreaks as he entered showbiz on part 2 of his tell-all vlog uploaded on his YouTube channel.
In the almost 10-minute video, he shared his view regarding the breakup of the MarNella love team (his tandem with Janella Salvador), how he handled the heartbreak and what happened to his showbiz career.
But the most intriguing part of his tell-all video was when he talked about his experience when he joined the Celebrity Edition of ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’ on ‘It’s Showtime’ describing it as his ‘biggest heartbreak.’
The 27-year-old male artist revealed that joining the reality singing competition really broke his heart because he gave it his all and yet he still failed to win.
To recall, Mortel lost against Ethel Booba in the celebrity edition. He found a new hope when he was invited again for the ‘All-Star Grand Resbak.

Coming from the Alab team, Mortel competed with Jex De Castro of Team Sinag and Tuko Delos Reyes of Team Bagsik.
In the first round, he sang the song’ “Larawang Kupas” which netted him a decent score of at least 90. This gave him the confidence that he would make it till the end. However, his performance of “Dancing On My Own” by Calum Scott in the second round failed to win the hearts of the jury giving him the lowest score among the three contenders, therefore knocking him out on the first day of the competition. This left the ‘The Mansion‘ star speechless as if his whole world had come crashing down on him.
He admitted, “Hindi ko sinasabi ‘to dahil bitter ako. Tsaka sinasabi ko naman sa inyo di’ba, sanay na ako sa rejection lalo na kapag nakikita ko naman na deserve ng iba. Pero noong panahon na yun, parang, totoo ba to? ‘Yan yung score ko sa second round? Nalalabuan ako sa totoo lang, hindi ako magsisinungaling.
“Hindi ko alam na ganun din pala yung nararamdaman ng mga tao,” he continued referring to the fans who lambasted the jury’s decision and expressed their support for Mortel. Even Jed Madela, one of the judges, was confused and puzzled how the young singer’s score was so low.
“Hindi ako magpapaka-plastic talaga. Sumama talaga ang loob ko nu’n.
“Kita naman sa screen ganun lang hitsura ko.
“Hindi sa hindi ako marunong tumanggap ng pagkatalo. Pero, why? I don’t think I deserve that score. And alam ko sa sarili ko binigay ko lahat.”
Furthermore, he said, “Na-hurt akong talaga. Ito na ba talaga ang fate ko, lagi na lang talo? And that’s how I felt. Hindi ko ifi-filter yun.”
Pertaining to his TnT moment, he stated: “It broke my spirit.”
With so many rejections in the past, Mortel admitted that he wasn’t prepared for another rejection in his life.
“I never thought that I would be heartbroken again after so many rejections kasi it’s something that I really want… This is a life-long dream for me to just reach the next stage.”
Nonetheless, Mortel was grateful for the good things that happened despite the failures he had to endure in his career.
“Thankful pa din ako dahil natalo man ako, madami pa ring good na pumalit.
“You can’t break my spirit,” he added.
Before his video blog reached the end, the ‘Bones’ singer left a piece of advice and inspiration to those who experience countless rejections in their lives: “Just keep standing up. Whatever breaks you should drive you more to succeed and to show everybody that you deserve to be there.
“I believe that after every defeat, there’s always a win,” he continued.
In his previous vlog, the artist admitted that it was not really his plan to become an actor or host as he wanted to be successful as a singer.
His passion for music is what drives him to chase after his dream even after every defeat and heartache.
The Kapamilya artist has joined several reality singing competitions in the past which gave him the exposure and opened opportunities for him. Unfortunately, he has yet to win a competition.
