On May 5, 2020, Tuesday night, ABS-CBN went off the air following the cease-and-desist order of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).
This has caused a big impact not only in news and updates but also in the entertainment industry.
At the Make It With You conference held last January, Liza Soberano aired her message for President Rodrigo Duterte regarding the franchise renewal with the hopes of having a result favorable to the network.
She said, “I believe that he’s understanding and alam naman niyang maraming maaapektuhan, it’s not just the company itself, but all the employees. I’m sure he has a generous and an understanding heart. I hope he wakes up one morning and he thinks about it again and maging bukas yung puso niya sa smaller employees na nangangailangan ng trabaho.”
While the franchise of the network is still being decided in Congress, ABS-CBN announced its return on cable through the new Kapamilya Channel on June 13, 2020.
Among the primetime series that viewers were looking forward to was Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil’s Make It With You series. However, as ABS-CBN was announcing the shows that were to resume, Make It WIth You”was not included in the list. Soberano then confirmed that their ABS-CBN series was already canceled, thus will no longer be aired on television.

In an Instagram post, Soberano sincerely expressed her heavyheartedness as she apologized, explained, and thanked her avid viewers following the cancellation of the primetime series.
“To all the solid followers of our show Make It With You, Thank you so much for embarking on the journey of Billie and Gabo. It breaks my heart to confirm that we will no longer be coming back to air.” The Kapamilya star went on revealing one of the reasons why the series had to stop, by adding, “I know a lot of you are upset and looking for answers and the only explanation I can give you is genuine fear of the virus. When we were asked to resume taping on June 13, many of us had hesitations. Considering that the COVID-19 situation here in the Philippines is far from contained, there are many risks in place for me (and everyone involved) given my history of having a weak immune system. I consulted my family, my managers, and the team and we all came to an agreement that it might be for the best to not continue with the show anymore. That, along with many other factors are the reasons why MIWY will no longer continue.”

Moreover, Ogie Diaz, Soberano’s manager, likewise confirmed its discontinuation on his Facebook page as he said, “Sa mga nagtatanong kumbakit hindi nakasama ang Make It With You sa magbabalik sa telebisyon ngayong June.. Ikinalulungkot ko pong ibalita sa inyo bilang manager ng isa sa bida na hindi na po ito mapapanood na.”
Apart from Diaz, Make It With You director Theodore Boborol also posted a series of tweets on his Twitter account expressing how decisions had to be made and how difficult it was for everyone.
He wrote, “ABS-CBN was already badly hit by the pandemic, and then suffered a double blow when its renewal was not granted. Decisions had to be made and we respect and understand why it ought to be done”.
He further acknowledged that it is not only Make It With You show that was affected but also other television productions. He finally continued on by quoting a tweet expressing his support and love for the cast, crew, and production team.
All these notwithstanding, Ogie Diaz still gave an assurance to the viewers regarding LizQuen’s new series.
“… Alam kong nabitin kayo sa love story nina Billie at Gabo, kaya hintayin na lamang po ang pagbabalik ng love team sa isa pang bagong teleserye. Salamat po, mga Kapamilya!”
Hence, though the saddening news of Make It With You series’ cancellation, the LizQuen stars are now set for their new series. This would now be their fifth series together.
