After a three-month suspension due to the coronavirus and a month after the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) issued a cease and desist order on ABS CBN’s television and radio transmission, the network returned with a new cable channel, Kapamilya Channel.
On June 13, 2020, Kapamilya Channel started airing with some old favorites and new offerings. Current programs that have resumed production under strict safety protocols include ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano and It’s Showtime.
Netizens expressed their excitement that their favorite Kapamilya programs are back.

On June 4, 2020, ABS-CBN announced on TV Patrol that Kapamilya Channel would begin airing on June 13. Production would be resuming on some shows as well.
This, however, caught the attention of House Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta who then targeted ABS-CBN on its cable franchise, questioning why its channels still broadcast the programs of the broadcast network despite the shutdown.
“Is the NTC aware of this? And if they are aware, why is it that they consented in airing the programs?”
However, NTC Commissioner Gamaliel Cordoba immediately clarified that former President Corazon Aquino had dropped the requirement for a franchise for cable TV operators through an executive order.
“Lumalabas po sa EO ay parang tinanggal po ng EO ang requirement ng prangkisa para po sa mga cable TV operators,” he said.
As promised, ABS-CBN has returned to Kapamilya Channel with its programs, this is part of the network’s commitment to deliver quality entertainment whatever it takes to its beloved viewers.
