Former celebrity G Tongi admitted having regrets about leaving show business to live in America at the peak of her career.
Tongi revealed this during a guesting on the GMA Network online show “Just In” hosted by Vaness Del Moral.
“I didn’t understand it years ago when I left, but now that I am older I understand that there were things that just didn’t feel right.”
She admitted that there were some things that she couldn’t have even she’s in showbiz.
“Ibig sabihin nun maski sikat ka, may trabaho ka, kumikita ka, alam mo na hindi ‘yun ‘yung mga bagay na nagfu-fulfill sa ‘yo. It wasn’t material, it wasn’t superficial.”
Tongi also saw how her mother struggled to raise them as a single parent and said that it is tough to live in the Philippines.
“It was I didn’t understand the disparity in the Philippines on why ang daming naghihirap tapos ang daming palaging umaalis ng bansa.
“Sa single mom kasi ako lumaki. Nung namatay yung tatay ko when I was very young, I was 11 months, my mom never got remarried. But I saw her struggle really for her children.
“Times are tough in the Philippines, everywhere ‘di ba? Naghihirap lahat ng mga tao.”
The host wasn’t able to hold back her tears and praised Tongi for her courage to face her struggles.
“It wasn’t something that was making you happy. The strength and the courage to just say ‘Ah ayoko na.'”
Tongi also clarified that it was also hard for her to decide to leave her showbiz career and admitted that sometimes she has some regrets.
“It’s hard to walk away, Vaness. It’s hard to walk away.
“I did it Vaness, but I gave a lot up. Do I regret it? I won’t deny sometimes I do.”
But it always made her ask what are the important things in life.
“‘Pag iniisip ko ay wala akong bahay na sarili ‘di ba? Wala akong ganito, wala akong ganyan. Naisip ko rin ‘yun, pero ‘yun ba ang importante?
“Ano ba talaga ang importante? At it’s different for everybody.”
