GMA Network might have found the right timing to launch their own DTT receiver GMA Affordabox.
On Friday, June 26, GMA Network unveiled their very own Digibox Affordabox which is set to go head to head against the widely popular ABS-CBN TV Plus.
According to GMA, Affordabox launching coincides with the celebration of its 70th anniversary.
“In celebration of this milestone of reaching seven colorful decades in the industry, we are more than grateful for the Filipinos’ continued trust in GMA Network as we reaffirm our commitment to deliver excellence in news and entertainment,” said GMA Network Chairman and CEO Felipe Gozon.
However, this is also an opportune time for their launch knowing ABS-CBN which operated the TV Plus is currently on shutdown due to NTC’s cease and desist order after their franchise expired on May 4.
It’s also good to note that the issue with ABS-CBN TVPlus raised by FICTAP went viral after their 24 Oras interview was also answered by ABS-CBN.
With that, GMA Network won’t have to worry with the same opposition from FICTAP with regards to their newly launched Affordabox.
Meanwhile, GMA’s Affordabox promises clearer viewing of their GMA Network and GNTV channels. It also offers Heart of Asia channel which will air tagalized Asianovelas acquired by the Kapuso network.
Aside from being a DTT receiver, the device also features Personal Video Recorder via USB, a nationwide Emergency Warning Broadcast System, and use as a multimedia player.
Currently, the device is sold for P888 at different physical stores and GMA’s official online stores on Lazada and Shopee.
