Director of the Film Academy of the Philippines Vivian Velez did not dismiss the stand of 2018 Miss Universe Catriona Gray who is not in favor of the Anti-Terrorism Bill.
On the Facebook account of Velez, the veteran actress posted screenshots of Gray’s opposition to the Anti Terrorism Bill, “Confused? Saving face? Ano ba talaga, Missed Universe?”
Vivian added that Catriona’s opinion can’t do anything since the bill has passed the House of Representative and the Senate which means it’s just waiting for the President’s signature, “The draft Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 passed both the House of Representatives and the Senate, and PRRD is expected to sign the bill into law. Nothing to revise and no more debate.”

She even quoted Catriona’s winning answer, that the bill is the ‘silver lining’ for the people of Mindanao.
“From the people of Mindanao, the anti-terrorism bill is their silver lining. And I thank you…”
Catriona had shared the importance of speaking out and opening our eyes in the context of the various issues facing the world today.
“There is so much happening in the world and our nation right now, and I know a lot of us want to just tune out because it all gets a bit overwhelming. But please, don’t allow that to be the reason we revert into silence and turn a blind eye.”

She also pointed out why it is necessary to participate in discussions on these topics, saying that it will allow each other to understand the bigger picture.
We need to stay engaged because this is where our voices count. So let's help each other by creating spaces that help us keep each other informed and help us understand what's going on.

Ending her statement, Miss Universe doesn’t wish to influence others to have the same side as she has but rather she influences others to thoroughly think about the bill.
“I’ve taken the time to research and digest information and come to my own conclusions and I implore you all to do the same. I’m not here to influence you to think a certain way, but I hope I can influence you to think for yourself.”
