Angel Locsin and Jodi Sta. Maria spoke out in defense of the six jeepney drivers who were arrested in Caloocan after holding a protest asking that they be allowed to resume work.
In the Instagram story of Angel, she posted a screenshot of an ABS-CBN News headline about the jeepney drivers being detained until they post bail,
“[Please] if you cannot help them, let them go home. They just want food for their families. Maraming gutom. ”
Angel begged for consideration and stressed that even if the jeepney drivers’ received funds from the government, it may not be enough to sustain them and their families for a number of days.
“Sabihin na nating may natanggap pero hindi natin alam kung enough na ba yun para sa pamilya nila para mapilitan silang lumabas, konting puso at consideration.”
Actress Jodi Sta. Maria also went on Twitter to release her frustration about the arrested 6 jeepney drivers, “They just wanted to make an honest living but were arrested and charged for ‘disobedience to social distancing’ Kasi mahirap? Kasi simple?”
“Pero pag…I’ll end it there. Pulis Kalookan…anong ginagawa nyo?”

Jodi also shared that she checked on the 6 prisoners and hoped that they wouldn’t have to stay long in jail.
“Eto po yung huling update na nakuha ko from @piston6 nung kinamusta ko sila Lolo. Friday na po ngayon. Wag na natin silang paabutin ng weekend sa custodial facility. Office of the City Prosecutor ng Caloocan…baka naman po pwede na kayong maglabas ng resolusyon?”

As the country transitions to a General Community Quarantine (GCQ), measures are being placed in order to ensure the health and regulation of human movements.
DOTr announced that Phase 1 vehicles would include Train and Bus Augmentation, Taxis and TNVS, Shuttle Services and Bicycles. Phase 2 covers public service buses, New PUVs and UV Express buses.
But no old jeepneys have been listed except the modernized PUVs, which mean that the DOTr is pushing its agenda to modernize public vehicles.
These caused members of the transport group PISTON to rally, to allow jeepney drivers to operate under the general community quarantine to have a source of income.
The drivers — Elmer Cordero, 72, Severino Ramos, 59; Wilson Ramilia, 43; Ramon Paloma, 48; Ruben Baylon, 59; and Arsenio Ymas Jr, 56—have been in jail for five days.
The Caloocan Police said that the six violated the prohibition against “non-essential” mass gathering and committed to resistance and disobedience to the person in charge.
PISTON 6 was arrested following a protest by EDSA on Tuesday calling for the resumption of their operations in Metro Manila, as they no longer have money to buy food.

Sad news. Piston 6 will NOT be going home today and will have to wait until Monday to post bail. Ang bagal ng hustisya para sa mahihirap. https://t.co/1Bp1PiaVZx
