TV personality and dermatologist Dr. Vicki Belo took her reaction to Julia Barretto’s braless photo to Instagram.
On the image-sharing platform, Belo showed her support for the young actress’s choice of not wearing a bra while staying comfortable at home.
This happened after Barretto received criticism from a few netizens who did not like her braless ootd (outfit of the day) post.
“@JuliaBarretto’s post got some negative comments when she posted a photo of her lounging at home braless,” said Belo who is also the founder and CEO of Belo Medical Group.

“I think Julia is right. Sometimes, it’s better not to wear a bra if you’re just lounging around the house, and especially if your breasts are not over a B cup or are not sagging,” she added.
According to the 64-year-old prominent dermatologist, letting the breast breathe by not wearing a bra from time to time is essential as it promotes better blood circulation and prevents neck pain.
She wrote, “Not wearing a bra allows for better blood circulation especially in the lung and breast area. Secondly, bra straps can be pressing on the area between the shoulder and the neck leading to neck pain.”
Furthermore, Belo shared on her Instagram stories some researches about the effects of wearing bras and the benefits that a woman gets if she lets her breast breathe by opting not to wear one.
One of the researches was based on the study of Jean-Denis Rouillon, a sports science expert from the University of Besancon, France who said that the bra is a false necessity as it only makes breasts sag, as quoted in a Medical News Today article last April 13, 2013.
Another was a statement from Dr. Andrea Madrigano, an American breast surgeon and associate professor of surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, who explained that bras have no “structural benefit” fro smaller-breasted women, as quoted in a Shape Singapore article last April 19.
Aside from Belo, other women who saw Barretto’s post also expressed their support for the 23-year-old actress.
A netizen commented, “Not wearing bra [fire emoji] beautiful [heart emoji].”
Some of Barretto’s followers shared that they can related to her as they do the same at home.

In one of her previous interviews, Barretto already explained why she opts to not wear a bra.
She said that she rathe use nipple tapes that wear a bra as it won’t have anything to hold on to anyways.
“Ako naman din walang kakapitan ‘yung bra.
“So mas masakit talaga kasi nagtatry naman yung bra ko eh, pero wala talaga syang makapitan.”
