During the Laban Kapamilya online protest, Kim Chiu was very outspoken with her anger and sadness about ABS-CBN’s forced shutdown. From the usually bubbly and lighthearted Kim, she became angry and hard-hitting protestor.
Kim was praised by Bianca Gonzalez who said she was proud that Kim has become bolder and stronger now.
Kim questioning everyone who used the “Law is law” argument against ABS-CBN. She asked bashers if they know anything about the law and are they aware of the events surrounding them. She asked if they have heard of the senate hearing of ABS-CBN which would have addressed all of their “law is law” arguments.
“So, ito ang laging binabato sa atin. ‘Law is law’ Paulit-ulit.
Kim associated the current ABS-CBN forced shutdown issue with the laws governing classrooms saying, “Sa classroom may batas, bawal lumabas? Oh bawal lumabas.”
“So, law. Ibig sabihin, batas. Oh bawal lumabas.
Samantala may ibang franchise channels, radio stations ngayon (GMA Network, TV 5 Network).. I think, seven. So nasaan ang batas? Law is law, wow!”
Salamat.”
The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) issued a cease and desist order against ABS-CBN on Tuesday, May 5, a day after its congressional franchise has expired.
The NTC directed the said network to end all television and radio broadcasting operations.
ABS-CBN was also given 10 days’ grace period to explain why the frequencies assigned to it should not be recalled.
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said the NTC’s order is “immediately executory, but still appealable to the courts.
Republic Act No. 7966 was enacted in March 1995 and granted the Lopez-led network a franchise to operate for 25 years, but Congress failed to act on its renewal. The franchise expired last May 4, 2020.
