After being quiet for sometime after ABS-CBN’s shutdown, Liza Soberano has started to speak up.
In a tweet, Liza pointed out the void that ABS-CBN has left after it shut down its broadcast on May 5. She said, while there are other media companies that continue to operate via the airwaves, there are places wherein only ABS-CBN can reach.
“I hope this serves as an eye-opener. Yes, there are options, but not everyone has that luxury.”

Liza’s tweet was in reference to another tweet by netizen Kathrina Sanchez (@kathrinavs) sharing how ABS-CBN’s closure affected those in the rural areas especially in times of calamities where information is badly needed.

Aside from Liza and Kathrina, other netizens also shared the effects of ABS-CBN’s shutdown in other areas only reached by the Kapamilya network’s signal.

Yup. Been a Doctor to the Barrio in an island town in Bicol. Maraming barangays w/o signal. If may signal naka analog phone usually. If may kaya kaunti, may small TV w/ 1 channel lang nasasagap. May ganyan pa w/c we call GIDA (geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas)

that is true. my mom always watches channel 2 from morning to night. and that is only the station which has good signal. since then, she can't watch anything much any more. and she is not tech savvy.

I agree. Our place in Iloilo which is a rural area only have ABSCBN esp to those can't afford to buy a cable. And in this time of crisis caused by pandemic and a typhoon, all of the Filipinos deserved to be informed and warned about the situations on their respective places.

On May 5, 2020, ABS-CBN was obliged to shut down their operations via the power of NTC’s cease and desist order.
ABS-CBN executives decided to immediately comply with the order, shutting off its broadcast after TV Patrol.
