After President Rodrigo Duterte’s recent briefing on whether or not the enhanced community quarantine will be lifted, extended, or transitioned to general community quarantine, veteran Journalist Korina Sanchez and Executive Editor of ABS-CBN News Channel Ces Drilon both expressed their disappointment in the outcome.
Even netizens tried to understand the context of Duterte’s speech but only to find out that it’s somewhat misleading and diverted attention away from the mass testing that the Palace had promised would commence last April 14, 2020.
On Instagram, Korina posted a meme that says “Announcement: Walang Announcement”.

Ces Drilon also posted the same meme on her Twitter account.

Netizens are also frustrated with Duterte’s speech as he was not able to address the issue towards the enhanced community quarantine.
In addition to that, Duterte violated RA 11469 Bayanihan to Heal as One Act as it requires the President to submit a weekly report to the Congress every Monday which Duterte failed to do so.
nakalagay sa RA 11469 aka Bayanihan to Heal as One Act na “The President of the Philippines shall submit a weekly report to Congress, every Monday, of all acts done for this law including the amount and corresponding utilization of funds.” so nilabag niya ang sarili niyang batas. https://t.co/16mrvMxkFd

President Duterte stated: “Yun mga taong pwedeng lumabas at mga taong hindi pwedeng lumabas, hanggan diyan lang muna kayo. We cannot distribute to all of you, Secretary Roque to make it clear for you., he will be using the government facility to convey the message of what has been decided tonight. Now, I hope you are all safe, at wala namang pinsala sa buhay ninyo. I greet all the mothers belatedly, happy mother’s day. Yung mga nanay na nawalan ng anak fighting COVID doing the highest endeavor that one can do is to serve is your fellow men. Masabi ko sa inyo, you live and die in this world and that’s for sure and have given the chance to serve your fellow men before going to the universal sky is something which is something be proud of.
“Lahat naman namamatay, pero ung ginawa nila, yun ang baon nila sa kanilang universal identity that they did something for their fellow men.”
Fortunately, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque was able to convey the message to the public. Duterte will put Metro Manila along with Laguna and Cebu City under a modified enhanced community quarantine from May 16 until May 31, 2020.
Manufacturing plants and public transport can resume but it will be under limited capacity.
Stay-at-home orders both in central and southern parts of Luzon and other provinces in Visayas and Mindanao will be lifted as soon as May 15, 2020.
These are the industries that can operate under the modified enhanced community quarantine:
- Health Care
- Pharmacies
- Veterinary clinics
- Food manufacturing
- Supply Chains
- Groceries
