Kim Chiu has been the target of hate and critics online since her “Bawal Lumabas” video trended last week.
Surprisingly, Chiu decided to fight back against all the criticisms by releasing a full remix version of her controversial flub on her YouTube channel yesterday, May 18.
The song was written by DJ Squammy who is also the music arranger of the viral beat used in the song. The music video is a compilation of clips of Kim chilling at home and helping the less fortunate, and included several videos of TikTok users who can be seen dancing to the DJ Squammy beat.
In her vlog, the 30-year-old star admitted that she herself found her statement funny, but she was surprised by the harsh reactions she received. She made the confusing statement during a “Laban Kapamilya” stream which also featured other big stars of ABS-CBN who expressed their thoughts regarding the network’s controversial shutdown to comply with the NTC’s cease-and-desist order on May 5.
According to the actress, the harsh comments have really affected her emotionally that she had to stay off social media and the internet.
She said, “I’m not going to lie to everyone. I was really down the past few days. As in super down, lower than the basement of a parking lot…[But] I choose the option to move forward.”
More so, Chiu expressed her gratitude to her critics and haters bringing her to what she described as the “lowest points” in her life.
“I want to thank you. Thank you so much. Because of you, my name trended [on social media]. Thanks for the attention you have given to me. At least, I made you happy. It’s on social media where we can both be happy and sad,” the actress said.
In case you missed it, the Love Thy Woman star became the talk of the town because of her confusing analogy where she tried to compare ABS-CBN’s shutdown to classroom rules.
Her statement went: “Sa classroom may batas, bawal lumabas, oh bawal lumabas. Pero ‘pag sinabi, ‘pag nag-comply ka na bawal na lumabas pero may ginawa ka sa pinagbabawal nila, inayos mo ‘yong law ng classroom niyo at sinubmit mo ulit ay pwede na pala ikaw lumabas.”
Chiu also thanked DJ Squammy and Adrian Crisanto—a songwriter who wrote the viral “open letter” to the actress on Facebook—who encouraged her to face the criticism and to move forward and turn a gaffe into a hit song.
The song has been officially released by Star Music.
Since its debut, the song has become a trending topic on Twitter. Netizens and celebrities alike could not hide their excitement and admiration for Chiu’s spirit to turn lemons into lemonade.
Agot Isidro, Heart Evangelista, and Sorsogon Governor Francis “Chiz” Escudero were among the personalities who lauded the actress.
