- Karen Davila reacted to the source of information that was used in the hearing
- Babao simply hit back at the network’s critics saying that the issues about the network had been answered.
ABS-CBN news anchors Karen Davila and Julius Babao slammed Congress’ hearing of ABS-CBN franchise.
During the congressional hearing, Cong. Rodante Marcoleta alleged that ABS-CBN did not pay taxes in 2018.
On Karen’s Twitter account, she reacted to the source of information that was used at the hearing. She hopes that Congress would include the graphics that according to Simplicio Cabantac Jr., Head of Large Tax Payer Audit Division 3, that the network had paid 14.3 billion in taxes from 2016 to 2019.

Last February, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) official also said that the company had no pending tax liability, and had a lone case for a subsidiary pending before the Court of Tax Appeals.
Karen also didn’t understand their argument that the ABS-CBN franchise should not be renewed due to the number of years that the network had been operating.
Cong. Marcoleta says that ABS-CBN has been operating for more than 50 years which is against the law. This made her ask if their rival network was also violating the law for operating for 59 years since 1961.
She shared a netizen’s post comparing the length of operations of other networks.
Salamat @tarareklamo di ko maintindihan ang argumento niya na dapat hindi i-renew ang ABSCBN franchise dahil over 50 years na raw ang operation #ABSCBNFranchiseRenewal https://t.co/xdmsTiUWZD

This is such a strange argument. Cong Marcoleta says ABSCBN has been operating more than 50 years & thats against the law. GMA7 TV was launched in 1961. So that means they’ve been operating 59 yrs. Is that against the law? Just a question. #ABSCBNFranchiseRenewal

Issues from alleged tax evasion, unfair labor practices, foreign ownership violations, the terms of its old franchise by introducing a pay-per-view feature in its TV Plus box, and having 6 channels under 1 franchise have been clarified by the network in the past.
