Rising director Darryl Yap, best known for his box-office hit film Jowable, is set to file a formal complaint against those who have been accusing him of being a pedophile on social media.
This comes after his name was brought up in relation to Senator Risa Hontiveros’ campaign against child abuse and child pornography in the Philippines.
The filmmaker admitted that since he became widely known, he had been receiving ill comments and criticisms for his short works; some were even calling him ‘pedo’ for his past admissions that he had been in a long relationship with a minor.
He had been ignoring all the accusations, but can no longer afford to do so, as he believes that he has to step up and put an end to the allegations which he branded as an “elaborate cybercrime” and a way of his bashers to destroy his career and reputation.
In a Facebook post on Monday, May 25, the budding director shared a screenshot of a post linking his name to such practices involving child molestation and pedophilia, along with a lengthy message explaining what he feels with the situation.
“Simula po noong naging matunog ang aking pangalan sa Social Media, lalo na noong makapasok ako sa industriya ng pagpepelikula, samu’t saring mga batikos at pang-aalipusta ang aking dinaranas.
“Madalas tungkol sa aking mga LIKHA, na aking tinatayuan at pinaninindigan dahil ito ang aking BRAND, ito ang aking paraan at atake sa pagtalakay ng mga isyu gamit ang aking hamak na kaalaman,” his message started.
“At meron ding mga atake na bagamat nakakapanakit ay hindi ko pinapansin; maraming nagko-comment at post na ‘pedo’ ako. Yung iba, I checked, legit accounts, pero I really don’t feel offended. kasi before they could offend me, I have to value their opinions first.
“Pero ngayon po ay umabot na sa puntong inilalagay nila ang aking kaligtasan, trabaho at pangalan sa alanganin.”

Yap continued: “Mula sa pag-screenshot ng mga tweets ko mula sa iba’t-ibang thread at dates, na binigyan nila ng malalaswang pakahulugan hanggang sa pag-e-edit na mismo ng mga tweets na hindi naman galing sa akin hanggang sa pagsasabi na ako raw ay umamin na isa akong pedophile at proud pa ako rito — ngayon, ikinokonekta na sa mga article na wala akong kinalaman.”
This comes after screenshots of his tweets in the past were collected and allegedly given a malicious meaning, which turned him into a heavily criticized “pedo maniac.”
He then asked his followers on Facebook to help him gather screenshots of posts and online profiles accusing him of being a pedophile, as proof that he can use in filing a lawsuit.
“This is an elaborate cybercrime, a personal attack,” he said, adding that calling him a “pedo” is an irresponsible act.
Further, Yap said, “Matagal ko nang dinepensahan ang aking sarili; ngunit bumubuo sila ng bagong issue upang magmukhang totoo. I am not a pedophile, I never abused children, I never admitted such and being tagged as one is very harmful not only to me but to the concerned society.”
His tirades continued noting that it’s a “demolition job” organized by his bashers to completely ruin his career.
Nonetheless, Yap said to his accusers, “Hindi kayo magtatagumpay.”
Yap has been the target of hate and criticisms for his tweets such as “may crush ako, bata :),” “Masarap Ang Bata,” and “mga ilang mababait na bata kaya ang makakaranas ng lambing ko :)” that circulated online.
In response to some questions thrown by his followers, the director admitted that (1) he had been in a 7-year relationship with a minor, (2) he was put behind bars in 2013 for “condoning a minor” (sheltering an outcast) and “seduction consent” (having a malicious relationship with a minor).
Some netizens expressed their support for the filmmaker. However, some were annoyed and irritated by how he handled the situation he is in.

While some insist that Yap should be imprisoned for his obscenity, some also stressed that there are a lot of filmmakers who are deserving of the spotlight that he is enjoying.
“Darryl Yap is so angry for being canceled because he’s a pedophile. I say he should be canceled for being an idiot. he should be jailed for being a pedo.”
