Jessica Soho’s interview on ’24 Oras’ with Federation of International Cable TV Associates of the Philippines (FICTAP) President Estrellita Juliano-Tamano earned the ire of viewers for giving six-minute interview to the representative of a group that badly wanted ABS-CBN to go off air on that day the Nationa Telecommunications Commission (NTC) served the cease and desist order on the Kapamilya Network.
The controversial FICTAP president told ’24 Oras’ that ABS-CBN’s TVplus black box dominated over micro, small, and medium cable operators. She also brought up alleged issues that were already cleared up by the senate during a past hearing, which only shows competition is the main reason for their advocacy of a shutdown.
Statement from 24 Oras in response to the story published last week:
“GMA News’ 24 Oras has always maintained fairness in its news reports, including that on ABS-CBN’s current franchise issue.
“ABS-CBN has constantly and consistently been given the opportunity to respond to issues raised against it. Since the cease and desist order was issued, GMA has been in contact with Kane Choa (Head, ABS-CBN Integrated Corporate Communications).
“On the evening of May 7, ABS-CBN sent its statement in response to FICTAP’s allegations. This was immediately aired at length on 24 Oras the same night.
“24 Oras hopes that this clarifies the matter.”
