Kapamilya star Coco Martin continues to show his support for his home network ABS-CBN despite the bashing he has received.
Martin was one of the Kapamilya stars who spoke during the Laban Kapamilya Facebook Live as their way to air their sentiments and reactions about the cease-and-desist order from the National Telecommunications Commission which forced the media giant to shut down.
However, FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano star was heavily criticized online for losing his cool and composure during their live session. Many netizens who were able to watch the video weren’t pleased with Martin’s rants and even mocked him through hate posts and memes. Rumors and supposed testimonies attesting to his bad character also spawned to destroy the actor’s name but his co-stars and co-workers addressed the rumors as lies.
Following his controversial statements, the actor went quiet on social media.
There were reports that someone might have advised him to be careful of what he says as he might face legal charges because of this. Rumors that an endorsement deal of the 38-year-old actor was canceled because of his controversial statement also circulated.
On Tuesday, May 26, Martin shared an art card on his Instagram account stating, “ABS-CBN Itinatag at pinapatakbo ng Pilipino. Nagbibigay trabaho para sa mga Pilipino. Naglilingkod para sa mga Pilipino,” and captioned, “Lalaban kami at maninindigan!!!”
It was on the same day that the House Committee on Legislative Franchises and Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability held a hearing on the bills that would grant the media network of a fresh 25-year franchise. Present at the hearing was the company’s president and CEO Carlo Katigbak who reiterated that the network did not violate any law following the critics’ accusations that ABS-CBN violated tax and labor laws.
Martin’s post’s comment section was “limited” which means only supporters of the actor can leave a comment.

Martin also joined the Kapamilyas’ efforts to encourage Filipinos to sign the online petition to renew the franchise of ABS-CBN.

In a video, the male supporter who dropped his TV can be seen ranting over the fact that he could no longer watch the top-rating and long-running FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano on TV after NTC terminated the network’s broadcast operations. The video immediately went viral and reached Martin.
Martin reposted the video on his Instagram account and wrote in the caption: “MARAMING SALAMAT TOL SA IYONG SUPORTA!!! PAG BALIK NAMIN PAPALITAN KO YANG TV MO NG MAS MALAKI PANGAKO KO SAYO YAN!!!
“PATI MOTOR BIBIGYAN KITA PAGBALIK NA PAGBALIK NAMIN!!! MARAMING MARAMING SALAMAT SA LAHAT NG TAONG SUMOSUPORTA AT NAKIKIRAMAY SA AMIN HINDI HINDI NAMIN KAYO MAKAKALIMUTAN!!!”
The male fan who introduced himself as Rex, a resident in Surigao, admitted that he did not expect that his idol would appreciate his video and would really mean what he said.
Rex said, “Ako ay nagpapasalamat sa staff n’yo (Coco and ABS-CBN). Pinahanap ninyo ako dito sa Surigao. Mga tatlong araw yon o apat na araw nagtanung-tanong sila. Dahil sa sinabi mo Idol na papalitan mo yun (TV) mas malaki pa diyan. Akala ko wala lang, parang joke lang.”
Aside from a brand new TV, Martin also gave the lucky supporter an extra ‘ayuda’ for his pregnant wife.
Idol, maraming salamat talaga. Huwag po natin iiwan si Idol Coco. Solid po tayo,” he added.
