The International Candlelight Memorial happens every third Sunday of May each year to commemorate people who have lost their lives with HIV and celebrate the great strides the community has done over the years for the HIV community.
Light Up is the country’s official activity for the 2020 Philippine International AIDS Candlelight Memorial (PIACM) Ceremony with this year’s theme, “We remember – We take action – We live beyond HIV.”
Two leading community movers in the HIV advocacy, the Project Red Ribbon Care Management Foundation, Inc., and the LoveYourself, Inc. spearhead this year’s PIACM Ceremony in partnership with Pilipinas Shell Foundation Inc. (PSFI). The event pushes through on May 17, 2020, at exactly 4PM despite the imposition of the national government of social distancing due to COVID-19. This time, it will be held entirely online, which is the first of its kind for the celebration. Streaming live on https://www.facebook.com/philippineIACM/, the virtual celebration of 2020 PIACM entails an ecumenical mass, inspirational messages from the authorities and the community, a candle lighting ceremony, and a two-hour celebration concert.
The event aims to give tribute to the meaningful lives of our friends who expired from HIV, and to spark a light of hope to people currently living with HIV in the Philippines. We also aim for communities to live beyond the existence of two pandemics victoriously.
