MAKATI CITY, April 28, 2020 – Pia Wurtzbach calls for more donations after raising nearly P1 million from crowdfunding of medical face masks for frontline health workers to protect them from contracting the novel coronavirus.
“Our goal is to protect our health workers from having COVID-19 by giving them the needed protection. We initially planned for 25,000 medical masks that are approximately 600 thousand pesos, but we’ve seen that there are more health workers in the frontline who need our help and we have to protect and take care of them in our own little way,” the confidently beautiful with a heart beauty queen explained.
The Miss Universe 2015 Titleholder also relayed that her team currently has collected around 900,000 pesos from donors, whom they are grateful for lending a helping hand.
The masks for medical front-liners drive came about due to reports of a shortage of medical supplies in some hospitals due to the influx of patients and extra protection for health workers.
The project also provides food and other essentials from various donors while the health workers are on duty.
From the collected donations, Wurtzbach has distributed about 42,000 pieces (pcs) of N88 masks, and 1,000 pcs of Kn95 to over 30 hospitals across Metro Manila and Luzon.
In particular, Wurtzbach’s team distributed the first batch of masks on March 31, with 5000 pcs N88 masks given to 4 hospitals in Manila. The team delivered another 11,900 pcs N88 masks on April 6 and 7 to 12 hospitals.
On April 13 and 14, Wurtzbach’s team distributed 15,000 pcs N88 masks for 15 hospitals, including those located in the CALABARZON region. The team handed over the last batch of N88 masks (10,000 pcs), and KN95 (1,000 pcs) face masks on April 21, and 22 to hospitals and government institutions in Manila stretching to Central Luzon.
