- Iza Calzado thanked everyone who supported her during her COVID-19 battle.
Kapamilya actress Iza Calzado has finally broken her silence regarding her highly criticized Instagram comment.
The actress was bashed on social media after she commented on Lea Salonga’s post saying the current COVID-19 crisis could be a universe’s way of healing the Earth.
“I agree with this and have been thinking about how the Covid situation is actually the Universe’s way of making the world a better place moving forward. Praying for the best.”

Netizens didn’t like her comment saying it reeks of privilege knowing there are many people who were hardly hit by the crisis.

Another proof that the #COVID19 situation is actually a reality check and not just a health check.
Check your privilege, Ms. Iza Calzado. Do you think the 140 cases and 12 deaths made the country a better place?
How about the 100,000+ cases and thousands of deaths worldwide? https://t.co/ZIKpXTkBeJ

Lakas ng loob magtweet how nature is healing kasi nakikita na yung Sierra Madre Mountains at Turquoise-blue color ng Manila Bay
Pero tinatawag nyong privilege at insensitive yung tweet ni Iza Calzado abt the earth is cleansing itself

Meanwhile, after recovering from COVID-19 where she was hospitalized, Iza took to social media to explain her side.
In an Instagram post on Monday, April 6, Iza said her comment during that time was misconstrued but it was not her intention to say anything hurtful or to celebrate other people’s sufferings.
“When I started getting sick, I made a comment on an IG post that was totally misconstrued. I understand how and why that happened and I am sorry if anyone was offended and felt bad about it. Please know that I would never intentionally say anything to hurt others nor celebrate anyone else’s suffering,” she wrote.

Iza added that being a hopeful person, she just wanted to see positive things in every situation. She’s just saddened that people weren’t able to see that but she completely understands where their sentiments.
“I am a hopeful person and always try to see the silver lining in every dark cloud. I am sad that you missed my heart but I also understand your sentiments.”
The actress also thanked all those who prayed for her and supported her during her most trying times. She also acknowledged the help of all the medical staff who attended to her during her confinement.
“After 2 weeks of battling Covid 19, pneumonia and a nasty bacteria called Acinetobacter Baumannii, I am alive and for that I am truly grateful. I know that so many of you sent your love and support and I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all of you. Please know that even if I didn’t get to read all the messages, I felt the love and good energy and that you helped me pull through one of the darkest moments of my life. Everything by God’s Grace, of course, but your prayers did so much for me. I hope in some way, I can pay it forward.
“I wish to thank all the frontliners especially my doctors and nurses in Asian Hospital for going above and beyond to make sure I live, breathe and have another shot at life.
“To Dr. Jorge Garcia, Kuya Joel and the family, much love and respect. Thank you.
Thank you for the support from my ABSCBN family who always checked up on me and made sure that I was fine until the finish line. Salamat, Kapamilya!
“My deepest gratitude to my friends and family who prayed HARD and really made me feel their love and care for me especially my number 1 nurse, my husband, Ben. I could never have done this without you, my Love. We did it, by God’s Grace, we made it!”
She encouraged everyone to thank God for every blessing that they have and to continue praying for those who are suffering and everyone helping to help them.
“Today, I encourage you to take a moment to thank God for your breath, thank Him for everything and everyone in your life and let us continue to pray for those who are suffering and for those who are trying their best to help those in need. Together, we can overcome all of this. Mabuhay!”
