TikTok was launched in 2012 but recently users have increased due to global pandemic with people trying to keep themselves entertained. However, others have found TikTok and the people using it insensitive and annoying.
Kadenang Ginto main antagonist Dimples Romana defended fellow TikTok users during the #KwentuhanLang session last April 16. She said that TikTok has been one of the creative outlets that any individual can use these days. In fact, people are actually joining the bandwagon of creating TikTok account to cope with stress and anxiety brought about by the COVID-19 crisis.
Dimples said: “We all cope differently. Especially now, we have to take care of our mental health also, hindi lang ‘yung katawan natin. Dapat pati ‘yung pag-iisip mo inaalagaan mo. Kailangan kung iyon ang nagpapasaya sa’yo at this point, OK. Ako, support ako sa ganyan.”
She also stressed the importance of entertaining oneself especially during this trying time due to COVID-19.
“Pag hindi ka makatulog, magkakasakit ka, iyon nga ang ayaw natin, di ba, ‘yung magkakasakit tayo. Kung ‘yung mga ganitong paraan of creating ay aayon sa kanila, I fully support.”
To anyone who found TikTok as annoying and insensitive, Dimples emphasized that everyone is entitled to let their creative juices flow, especially now that Luzon is still under the extended lockdown and everyone is required to do physical isolation.
Dimples continued: “Ang gandang isipin na nakakapag-express tayo ng mga sarili natin that freely. It’s very strange now, the times. Kumbaga na sa bahay ka. If you’re a creator by heart and you’re an artist by heart, naghahanap lagi iyon ng lalabasan na medium. I’m just so happy that we have online to share that kind of creation.”

TikTok is also helping the Philippines to fight COVID-19 by pledging to donate $1million to the Philippine General Hospital Medical Foundation Inc.
$1 million will be used to procure protective gear as well as equipment to the said hospital. In line with this, the global public director of TikTok has praised the resilience of Filipinos amidst the pandemic crisis.
Helena Lersch stated: “TikTok could attest to the Filipino resilience. We have witnessed how the Filipino community managed to look out for each other and bring a smile or deliver a message of hope despite the gravity of the situation.”
