Darren Espanto shared what it means and feels like to live with parents who are frontliners in Canada.
In a recent online interview with MYX Philippines, Darren explained in depth the things his parents have to do before they can even meet anyone else inside their house.
One of the precautionary measures that his parents do is sanitizing before going inside the house,
“Yeah, it’s something that they definitely have to get used to. Kahit kapag naggo-groceries din, pagdating ng bahay, sina-sanitize muna namin sa door pa lang.”
He also announced that if you know what to do, there is nothing frightening about the pandemic, given the fact that both of his parents are among the frontliners fighting COVID-19.
“Really nothing to be scared of if you know what you have to do.”
Not just sanitizing, Espanto said that at home they practice social distancing, “I am not the clingy type. I’d say it’s difficult knowing that they are risking our lives for us every day, not just my parents but all of the frontliners.
“But also for my sister not being able be as clingy to my parents as she wants to be, it’s something that we have to get used to.”
Recently, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) named teenage singing sensation and actor Darren Espanto as its very first celebrity Youth Advocate for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on climate change, conservation of biodiversity, and empowerment of youth.
During his digital appointment ceremony with UNDP Philippines Resident Representative Titon Mitra, Darren said he is eager to raise awareness specifically on programs concerning climate change,
“But I am also keen to be involved in programs related to climate change and biodiversity conservation. Many times, I find myself wondering what the world will be like by the time I have my own kids. What is the legacy we will leave to our children? It worries me a lot.”
And as he is appointed to this position, the singer-actor is using his role to encourage children to protect themselves during the 2019 coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19).
“I’d like to raise awareness through my social media accounts for now since I can’t really go out and physically tell people about everything that’s been happening.”
Darren was born in Calgary and traveled to the Philippines in 2014 for The Voice Kids audition. Darren even went back and forth from Canada to the Philippine to write his advanced exam at St. Cyril College after completing the auditions.
