A few weeks ago, Darren Espanto revealed his past love interests which greatly surprised many netizens. The young stars that Darren once dated were Kyline Alcantara, Andrea Brillantes, and Ylona Garcia.
Now that he’s not dating anyone, many netizens and fans of the young star have been trying to pair him up with Cassy Legaspi.
Even though a lot of fans are rooting for the two young stars to be together, Darren has been consistent with his answer about their relationship.
During an interview with MYX over the weekend, the 18-year-old singer shared that “there’s no awkwardness at all” between him and Cassy and they are just very close friends considering that they belong to the same circle.
“That’s something that we’ve talked about even before we met in person. Like, ‘O, we have shippers now.’ The first time we met, it was a bit awkward kasi siyempre hindi pa naman kami nagkikita dati. But it’s been an ongoing thing na we talk about,” he said.
He also shared that he doesn’t mind at all whenever Cassy’s twin brother Mavy calls him “brother-in-law” since it has been a part of their friendship.
“Ongoing joke din ‘yun. We are all used to each other joking around like that. It’s really part of our friendship na talaga,” the young singer remarked.
While Darren is happy with all the love and support that he and Cassy are getting from their fans, the “In Love Ako Sa’Yo” hitmaker was able to avoid the question if there’s a chance for him and Cassy to become more than friends by bringing in his sister Lynelle into the video conference.
Moreover, Darren pointed out that most relationships work if they started with a friendship which is a strong foundation for any relationship.
“For me, I’d say na ‘yung pinakamatibay nga na relationship should always start with the friendship kasi when you guys break up, parang after that, there’s nothing there kung hindi nagsimula sa friendship,” he explained.
Apart from his closeness with the daughter of Carmina and Zoren Legaspi, Darren also talked about the meaning of his latest song “Sasagipin Kita” which has been a mainstay on the MYX daily charts since its release.
“’Sasagipin Kita’ is really a different sound sa Darren Espanto from four years ago. This is my first song na parang alternative din ‘yung tunog… The song talks about really being there for kahit sino. Of course, all of us have our bad days, all of us go through a rough patch in our lives so I’d like to dedicate that song to everyone who’s going through something,” he said.
While composing his own song gives him a sense of accomplishment, Darren hopes that he will be able to do more songs in the future.
