Celebrities and netizens couldn’t help but feel nostalgic and thrilled when former love team John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo caught up on each other’s lives via Instagram live last Monday, April 27.
Their half-hour long conversation began with a playful round of Q&As, wth Cruz quizzing Alonzo on his favorite color, viand, and movies.
Their game ended with the actress concluding that the actor is happiest when he’s with his son, Elias, and at his saddest when he’s alone.
As their ‘catching-up’ went on, the former on-screen powerhouse had a back-and-forth exchange of their iconic lines from their hit movies and shows prompting the 36-year-old actor to say a heartfelt and out of the blue message for his former partner.
“Nandoon ka nung nagmahal ako, nandoon ka nung nasaktan ako, nandoon ka nung wala akong matakbuhan, nandoon ka nung kailangan ko ng kaibigan, nandoon ka nung kailangan ko ng kausap. ‘Pag binabalikan ko lahat ng ‘yan, minsan ‘di ko na alam kung ano pa tayo…kung sino tayo. Pero ok lang kasi ‘yung mahalaga ‘yung nandoon ka. ‘Yun lang, sapat na ‘yun,” he said.
“Anong movie ‘yan?” Alonzo asked about the melancholic line to which Cruz replied with, “Wala, gusto ko lang sabihin.”
Towards the end of the live stream, the Finally Found Someone star busted out an acoustic guitar and sang parts of “You Are My Sunshine” prompting the 32-year-old actress to say she missed her former on-screen tandem.
She said, “Na-miss kita” to which Cruz replied with “Namimiss kita.”
The IG live ended when Cruz’s son, Elias, whom he considers his “sunshine” entered the room.
On Twitter, fans of the on-screen loveteam known for their characters as Popoy and Basha in the 2007 box-office hit film One More Chance, couldn’t hide their kilig and excitement. While some felt the nostalgia brought by Cruz and Alonzo’s live conversation, some are hoping that the former love team will be given the chance to work together again.

Bea-JLC Tandem
Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz were among the most successful Filipino “love teams” in the 2000s. They starred in the primetime soap Kay Tagal Kitang Hinintay in 2002. Their tandem hit super stardom when they played as Popoy and Basha in the 2007 hit movie, One More Chance. In 2015, Cruz and Alonzo reunited in the sequel, A Second Chance.
The two last set the online world on fire in February when they opened Art Fair Philippines’ 10 days of Art with a live script reading of the romantic comedy movie That Thing Called Tadhana and sang in the song “Where Do Broken Hearts Go.”
Just a few days ago, Cruz posted on his Instagram account a video of himself on a boat with his and supposedly Alonzo’s feet enjoying the sail.
“Two friends, their feet one against the other,” he wrote.
However, as much as fans hoped for it, Cruz and Alonzo were never a real-life couple which is pretty unusual in our country’s showbiz setting where tandems usually end up together for real with some breaking up afterward.
