Singer and actress Carol Banawa, who is a registered nurse in the US, shared her experience and her greatest fear as one of the nurses who have been called to be a frontliner abroad during the coronavirus crisis.
Through a pre-recorded video which was aired on “ASAP Natin ‘To” on Sunday, April 19, the “IIngatan Ka” hitmaker narrated what she had to go through as a medical frontliner.
“When the pandemic started, every day paiba-iba ang guidelines. Nandoon lahat ng questions. We were also in fear. Siyempre nandoon po ang possibility na maka-encounter ako ng COVID patients pero so far wala pa naman,” she said.
“My greatest fear is bringing the virus home. Kasi like my daughter, she’s considered high risk kasi may asthma siya. My husband, he’s in the military. Ang ginawa namin para lang added protection, meron kaming basket by the door and then once we get home, tanggal lahat ng damit, diretso kami sa banyo and then ligo muna. After that, that’s the only time we can greet and say hello to the kids,” she added.
Banawa also said that her job as a medical health worker is still bearable since she had many Filipino colleagues in the unit where she’s assigned.
“Sa unit namin, sa OR, marami po akong katrabaho na Pilipino doon. Siyempre masarap ang pakiramdam kapag kasama niyo ang mga kababayan niyo sa trabaho. If you give a Filipino a task, we do it the best way that we can.”
Despite the possible danger and the difficulty she is facing as a frontliner, Banawa is more than willing to give her best to help fight the viral disease together with the other Filipino health workers all over the world.
“Sa lahat ng Filipino nurses all over the world, alam ko po wala pa po sa kalingkingan yung na-contribute ko para po maitulong sa pandemic na ito. But I am trying my best in my own little way. Saludo po kami sa inyo,” she stated.
As part of her “ASAP Natin ‘To” appearance, the 39-year-old singer sang her song “Iingatan Ka” with Jonalyn Viray and Angeline Quinto as a tribute to ll the frontliners who are doing their part in fighting against COVID-19 pandemic.
