Along with Rosalinda and Basahang Ginto, Carla Abellana considers My Husband’s Lover as one of her most memorable teleseryes.
Rosalinda marked her acting debut as it was her first-ever drama series and TV project back in 2009 but it’s My Husband’s Lover that created a huge impact on her life as well as that of Dennis Trillo and Tom Rodriguez’s lives.
Considered as GMA Network’s groundbreaking series of 2013, My Husband’s Lover is the first gay-themed drama series in Philippine television that bravely tackled LGBTQIA+ relationships, which was considered taboo before.
Even so, My Husband’s Lover was widely accepted in the country as it garnered positive comments and reviews, especially from the LGBT Community. The story revolves around Lally Agatep-Soriano (Carla Abellana), who struggles to be the perfect wife to Vincent Soriano (Tom Rodriguez), a closeted gay who had an affair with his former lover Eric del Mundo (Dennis Trillo), a gay architect.
Abellana, who described the series as “iconic” and “well-written” admitted that My Husband’s Lover has greatly changed her life as it boosted her career.
“I loved playing the role of Lally. It spearheaded our career, sa aming tatlo,” the Kapuso actress stated.
With My Husband’s Lover, Abellana, as well as Rodriguez and Trillo were recognized internationally for their outstanding performances as actors.
“I most especially love the fact na nakilala po kami sa buong mundo because of ‘My Husband’s Lover’ and until today, as in today 2020 people still look back and remember, and people are actually even watching it until today,” she said.
According to the 33-year-old actress, up until now, My Husband’s Lover is still airing in several countries like Thailand, Africa, Vietnam, and India.
“Hanggang ngayon umeere pa rin po siya sa ibang countries like Thailand, even in Africa. So may mga countries po na ngayon palang po actually nag-a-air and My Husband’s Lover. ang galing kasi even more than 5 years after, may mga interesado pa rin po dun sa soap kinuha pa rin po nila para i-air dun sa kanila. so that means a lot.”
Critics and viewers praised not only the out-of-the-box concept of the series but the cast as well. Abellana, who portrayed as Lally, was lauded for her effective acting as she was able to make her audience feel her love for her mother and for her husband in the story.
Aside from this, the iconic series bagged multiple awards from different award-giving bodies such as Best Ensemble Performance (TV Series) given by Tagapuring mga Akademisyan ng Aninong Gumagalaw; Outstanding Original Drama Program awarded by Entertainment Press Society; and TV Show of the Year (Primetime) given by Philippine Entertainment Portal.

For this year’s rerun, My Husband’s Lover which has already piloted on March 23, airs at 9:15 p.m. after the rerun of Kambal, Karibal. It was also the original timeslot of My Husband’s Lover during its first airing.
