- She trended online after mentioning COVID-14 instead of COVID-19 in her speech
- Lani was also one of the Mayors who earlier trended on social media for being absent from the public eye amid COVID-19 outbreak in the country
On her birthday, last Monday, April 13, Bacoor City Mayor Lani Mercado aired her apology for mistakenly calling the disease as COVID-14 instead of COVID-19. The actress-turned politician trended online after her Facebook live blooper.
We heal as one. Maraming maraming salamt po sa inyo. Manatili po kayo sa inyong tahanan. Manalangin po tayo sa ating tahanan,” she said in her speech.
Lani issued an apology in a Facebook video of her husband Senator Bong Revilla after he greeted her and offered flowers to her on her birthday.
Along with her apology, the Bacoor City Mayor also thanked those who remembered and greeted her.

She also admitted that she was bashed for her mistake though she said, “I am okay, I am happy. I’m not mad kahit bina-bash.”
Aside from this, Lani was also one of the Mayors who earlier trended on social media for being absent from the public eye despite the escalating situation on the COVID-19 crisis.
Her absence was compared by netizens to mayors who are being praised and commended for their efforts to deal with the crisis such as Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, and Cainta Mayor Kit Nieto.
In response to this, Lani took to Facebook and explained to netizens that she is working from home.
