- Magdayao clarified she only has a cameo role in the film
- She described how she and Cruz are getting along while doing the project
Shaina Magdayao is part of ex-boyfriend John Lloyd Cruz’s film Servando Magdamag, which marks their reunion since they separated in 2012.
Based on the story by Ricky Lee, the movie will serve as the major film comeback of Cruz after taking a two-year hiatus from the entertainment industry.
This movie is an adaptation of Lee’s short story that was first published in 1970. The movie was included in the trailer released by ABS-CBN called Sama-Sama Tayo sa 2020 with a caption “Soon in Cinemas.”
According to Magdayao, she is only taking up a cameo role in the “Servando Magdamag” movie.
“Actually, it’s not my film. I’ll answer it once and for all para hindi na tayo humaba pa. It’s not my film with him. It’s his film. It’s a Ricky Lee material. It’s called Servando Magdamag. It’s directed by Lav Diaz. It’s not my film. Cameo lang po ako,” she said during the press conference of the film Tagpuan.
The actress added that she was only convinced to appear in the film because of her gratitude to Diaz.
“I was able to attend so many international film festivals and the exposure he has given me is something na hindi ko inakalang mararating ko. Hindi ko inakalang mae-experience ko sa tanang buhay ko. So isang malaking utang na loob ko sa kanya ‘yun. So this is my way of thanking him by not saying no. So I did a cameo to be very exact,” she explained.
Aside from helping Diaz, she was also happy that she was of help to Cruz whom she treats as a friend.
“At first, before shooting the film, ang disposition ko was okay gagawin ko ‘to for the love of Lav Diaz. But as we ended and by the last shooting day, I’m happy that I can now say that I was able to support not just my director Lav Diaz but also my friend, John Lloyd,” she said.
Magdayao said she and Cruz are getting along well.
“Okay naman kami nu’n. Pero never ko talaga nakita sarili ko na magkakasama kami sa trabaho. It was something na never ko naman na-experience before din,” she said.
“It’s so nice because we’re different people now. And obviously, we’re both very happy with our respective lives. Pero maliit lang talaga ang mundo ng showbiz. Ganu’n talaga ‘yun eh,” she added.
It was in June 2010 when the versatile actor confirmed that he was in a relationship with Shaina. By May 4, 2012, Shaina confirmed that they had both decided to break up due to an undisclosed reason.
