- Netizens slammed Duterte for seemingly threatening Mayor Vico Sotto.
President Rodrigo Duterte told local government units (LGUs) to keep in sync with the national government in the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine.
In a recorded public address aired 2 am Friday, March 20, Duterte warned LGU mayors to follow the guidelines set by the Inter-Agency Task Force or else they may be charged in court.
“If you go beyond the standards that we have set, you are abusing your authority, and you know that it can lead to administrative cases, or even worse—unless you stop what you are doing—criminal cases cannot be far behind,” said Duterte.
“Do not try to overdo things or think that you can do what you want to do, because that is not allowed. We move in one direction precisely to place the contagion in control.
“Huwag kang magbiyahe nang sarili mo,” the President added.
While the President did not mention the name of the LGU official he was pertaining to, it was obvious to everyone that it was Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto that he was talking about.
Mayor Vico was earlier called out by the DILG (Department of the Interior and Local Government) for allowing tricycles to operate in Pasig to serve medical front liners and residents with medical emergencies.
Because of Duterte’s obvious swipe at Vico, netizens were quick to defend the Mayor and slammed the president for his uncalled for rant.
LGBT advocate Paulo Castro in a tweet asked the obvious if the 2 am presscon was against Mayor Vico.

He also added that if the President’s supporters would think that the address was a show of power, they are wrong because it only showed how insecure, incompetent, and fragile the national leader is.
“Duterte and his army thought that was a show of power? All it showed was an insecure, incompetent, fragile, old man. That was pathetic. His supporters are right, LET THE MAN REST. The men behind him made him do that. That was actually a loss for them. WOW.”

Netizen Pandemic De Manila, on the other hand, blasted the President for making people stay awake until past midnight just to attack a mayor who’s doing his best for his constituents.

Netizen and celebrity stylist Rain Dagala meanwhile slammed Duterte and called him a cry baby for throwing shade at the LGU after passing on them the buck on solving the COVID-19 crisis in their localities.
