Leading broadcast company GMA Network is off to a great start in 2020 with its various programs and artists earning multiple feats from various award-giving bodies.
At the recently concluded Ani ng Dangal Awards conferred annually by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts last February 26, Asia’s Multimedia Star Alden Richards led the list of awardees together with some of the most prized artists in the industry including fellow Kapuso star Ai-Ai delas Alas and GMA Artist Center talent Barbara Miguel.’
They personally received their Ani ng Dangal plaques during the awarding ceremony held at the Malacañang Palace.
Various Kapuso programs and artists were also recognized at the 4th Guild of Educators, Mentors and Students (GEMS) Awards held last February 13.
Longest-running morning show Unang Hirit took home the Best News Program for its Unang Balita segment. One of its pioneer hosts, Suzi Entrata-Abrera, was named as Best Female News Program Anchor. Winning the Best Male News Program Anchor was another UH host—seasoned broadcast journalist Ivan Mayrina—who was recognized for the weekend primetime newscast 24 Oras Weekend.
GMA News TV’s iJuander was included in the Top 4 Best TV Programs for Documentary/Educational/Informative format. GEMS also conferred a posthumous award to the late Cesar Apolinario as one of the Top 4 Best TV Program Hosts.
GMA Network’s Eleksyon 2019 Special Coverage was honored as the Best TV Special for its accurate and dedicated reporting of the 2019 Midterm Elections.
Alden Richards, on the other hand, won the Best Actor award for his exceptional portrayal of Sep in the GMA primetime series ‘The Gift’.
Receiving the Best Actress Award was Kapuso Diva and one of Centerstage judges Aicelle Santos for her acting prowess in Himala: Isang Musikal.
Meanwhile, GMA Network flagship AM radio station Super Radyo DZBB was hailed as Best Radio Station.
Winning the “Natatanging Pelikulang Pampamilya” special award was GMA Pictures and MIC Test Entertainment’s debut film Family History which was bannered by Kapuso comedy genius Michael V.
Furthermore, during the 4th Film Ambassador’s Night by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) last February 9, GMA News and Public Affairs programs dominated the list of awardees in the TV Documentaries category after bringing honor to the country for winning in some of the most prestigious “A-List” international film festivals.
Documentary program The Atom Araullo Specials was honored for two of its documentaries, namely “Babies4Sale.PH” and “No Leftovers”. Both episodes earned the Gold Camera Award from the 2019 US International Film and Video Festival.
Meanwhile, I-Witness’ ‘Islang Walang Lupa,’ Front Row’s ‘Pasan,’ and Investigative Documentaries’ Piitan each received a Silver Screen Award at the same festival.
For their contribution to the media industry, several Kapuso programs and personalities were also recognized by the National College of Science & Technology during its 3rd Dangal ng Bayan Awards.
Receiving the Media Excellence Award were news magazine show Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (Psychology), flagship newscast 24 Oras (Communication), travel program Biyahe ni Drew (Tourism), and lifestyle show Pop Talk (Hospitality and Management).
Drama anthology show Stories for the Soul was given the Maka-Diyos Media Excellence Award.
Finally, veteran broadcast journalist Susan Enriquez was honored as the Media Excellence Awardee for Radio and Television.
