- Liza Diño-Seguerra is positive that the government would not like ABS-CBN to shut down
- She hoped that pending issues would be finally resolved
Film Development Council of the Philippines Chairman Liza Diño-Seguerra revealed her personal standing about the pending franchise renewal of ABS-CBN and possible closure of the network.
As a government employee and a supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte, who has repeatedly threatened the network, she said she would not like to take any sides between #NoToABSCBNshutdown and #YesToABSCBNshutdown
Liza said, “Ako wala akong hashtag, siyempre I’m a part of government. We support the initiative of the government in terms of the evaluation. I think right now nandun tayo sa evaluating what has happened in the last 25 years of the franchise. So if there are things that need to be discussed, kailangan na maayos, sana maayos at mapag-usapan.”
But Liza said that the government would not like a network like ABS-CBN to close shop.
She said, “Of course in the end, alam ko naman kahit ang gobyerno natin we wouldn’t want a network that has been there and supporting this industry for the longest time to close down.”
The FDCP Chair hopes that issues between the network and present administration should be attended and resolved.
“But sana it’s also important for us to attend the issue at hand. So kung ano man yun, whether kung meron siyang business or wala. I hope that the right parties convene at mapag-usapan kung paano nila ma-resolve.”
Liza was also asked for her opinion on ABS-CBN’s 11,000 employees who could lose their jobs if ABS-CBN would be shut down and she said, “Right now kasi, it’s particular on the frequency. But the rest of their platform are still intact. So I don’t know, I can’t have an opinion on are they really gonna be like that.”

Liza is positive that employees will not be left jobless under ABS-CBN’s hands.
“I don’t think ABS-CBN would allow their 11,000 employees are left ng walang trabaho. Naniniwala ako na gagawa at gagawa ang ABS-CBN ng paraan para maresolbahan at mabigyan ng proteksyon ang lahat ng mga workers nila.”
During the Senate hearing last February 24, ABS-CBN President Carlo Katigbak apologized to the president for not airing his presidential campaign ad. On February 26, the president accepted the apology.
Though ABS-CBN and President Duterte are now in good terms, the fate of the biggest network still lies in the Congress’ final decision.
House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano on Friday said Congress won’t be tackling bills renewing ABS-CBN’s franchise until May at the earliest and at the latest, by end of July after President Rodrigo Duterte’s annual State of the Nation Address (SONA).However, he assured that the network won’t be shut down even if its 25-year franchise expires on March 30th.
