Robin Padilla calls out ABS-CBN and other stars supporting franchise renewal issue

  • Robin Padilla blasts stars supportive of ABS-CBN.

Robin Padilla called out Kapamilya celebs and other stars who openly supported ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal.

In a Facebook post, Padilla, who has also done several shows for the Kapamilya network, challenged ABS-CBN and GMA Network stars to disclose their network contracts.

Padilla continued blasting fellow stars by saying if they want to correct the system, they should start by calling for fair salaries of the off cam workers in the entertainment industry rather than defending the rights of the network owners.

Tama ba sa sustansya?” he added.

Padilla’s rant came after several big stars of ABS-CBN and GMA network came out in support of the embattled TV network. From Angel Locsin, to Regine Velasquez, Vice Ganda, Gary Valenciano, Enchong Dee, and Dingdong Dantes, all of them showed their support for the renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise.

And contrary to Robin’s claims, all of these stars’ concerns were the 11 thousand regular and non-regular employees of ABS-CBN whose jobs will be endangered should the network failed to secure a franchise extension.

ABS-CBN’s franchise is set to expire on March 30, 2020. There are already 11 bills filed in Congress which seeks to renew the Kapamilya network’s franchise but the Committee on Legislative Franchises has yet to act on it.

Recently, the Office of the Solicitor General has also filed a quo warranto case at the Supreme Court asking to void ABS-CBN current franchise.

ABS-CBN Thanks all their supporters

Meanwhile, ABS-CBN thanked everyone who supported the network in their trying times.

The network acknowledged the outpouring of support from all sides including their rival networks which are their colleagues in broadcasting. They also thanked several government officials for their positive words amidst the threat of their shutdown.

“All of us at ABS-CBN say thank you to everyone who has expressed support for our network.

We are inspired by the positive words from government officials, fellow journalists here and abroad, industry organizations, the academe, church, artists, all Kapamilya, Kapuso, Kapatid, friends, fans, and viewers,” said ABS-CBN.

ABS-CBN vowed to continue their service to every Filipinos around the world with the highest level of honesty and integrity and in adherence to the law.

“We are grateful that you trust that we only serve with the highest level of honesty and integrity and in adherence to the law.”
