Grand slam Queen Lorna Tolentino ended speculations that FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano will finally end its run this coming March.
In a sideline interview during the grand opening of Skinfrolic by Beautederm at the Ayala Malls Manila Bay, LT said there’s no truth to the rumors that the long-running Kapamilya action-drama series will end in March.
Instead she said that her character first lady Lily Ann Cortez Hidalgo will be the one to end in March.
“No, hindi. Ako hanggang March. Pero si ‘Probinsyano’ tuloy pa. I think until May pero I’not sure kasi tuwing okey naman ‘yung naging istorya at okey naman ‘yung ratings ang hirap nilang palitan,” she said.
“Actually, magwa- 1 year ako sa March 1. ‘Pag umabot ako, isang taon na ako sa ‘Ang Probinsyano,” she added.
Currently, the series focused on Lily’s growing influence and control of President Hidalgo. While Lily suffered from the loss of her protege Meilin, she’s definitely in revenge mode as she successfully implicated Sec. Delfin Borja on false corruption charges and a trumped-up drug case.
Lily was also successful in booting Executive Sec. Dianna Oligario out of the palace.
With Delfin and Dianna out of the Palace, Dianna and Task Force Agila are looking for solid evidence of Lily’s connection to the drug syndicate and clearing Delfin Borja’s name.
FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano is on its 4th year now on television. The longest-running action drama teleserye has lorded the primetime programming ever since it premiered, gunning down every Kapuso rivals pitted against it.
This 2020, the show is expected to soar into new heights as Coco Martin confirmed the entry of three Hollywood actors to the show and their plan to shoot abroad.
“In terms of action, sa story, kumukuha na kami ng international actors para mas lalong gumanda ‘yung kuwento namin.” he said.
“Dito at saka sa abroad [ang shooting]. Basta Hollywood actors,” he added.
Controversies
The series has encountered several controversies in its four years on television.
In July 2017, the LGU of Arayat Pampanga has called out FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano for depicting their town as a hideout of rebel groups.
Officials of the Arayat town released a resolution asking the Kapamilya network to apologize for portraying the town as “a haven and breeding ground for terrorists and hoodlums.”
In November 2018, the Philippine National Police has called out the series for the negative portrayal of cops.
During that time, the series featured a character of a Police chief involved in a drug syndicate. The PNP leadership apparently didn’t like the storyline and threatened to withdraw support for the show. But after meeting with the producers, the two camps came up with an agreement which resulted in a more positive feature of the police force.
Aside from that, the show was also criticized last July 2019 for showing the violent gang rape scene of a policewoman. That scene again caught the attention of the PNP saying the show should fully consider the agency’s sensibilities.
