- Kim Chiu thought that her character and the story of her upcoming teleserye have some similarities to her own life story.
- Love Thy Woman is the TV comeback of the real-life couple Kim and Xian Lim after three years.
Philippine showbiz’s Chinita Princess Kim Chiu always get emotionally whenever she gets to recalls about her childhood days; when she had to compete against her other siblings for father’s attention. She shared this during the Love Thy Woman press conference.
The 29-year old actress is the fourth of five children to William Chiu, a Chinese businessman from Mindoro and her mother Louella.
Kim grew up without a father figure. Her parents were separated when she was eight years old. Together with her siblings, Kim was raised with her paternal grandmother.
Kim’s father has a lot of wives, but her mom was the first family.
Lagi akong nagwa-wonder nasaan yung Papa ko, lagi siyang nawawala…
Magugulat na lang ako, si Papa pala.’Dumating pala siya,” Kim shared how her father showed support for her during school events that needed the parents’ attendance.
Her father’s presence in those occasions served as her motivation to succeed in life.

This year, she is starring together with Xian Lim (Kim’s real-life boyfriend), Yam Concepcion, Eula Valdes, Sunshine Cruz, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Ruffa Gutierrez, and Christopher de Leon in the series Love Thy Woman.
The series is about a modern Filipino-Chinese family headed by patriarch Adam (de Leon), who is determined to keep his family intact despite having two. He lives with his first wife Lucy (Valdes) and their daughter Dana (Concepcion), while his second family, Kai (Cruz) and Jia (Chiu), live separately.
Even if the two wives have long accepted their situation, conflict brews between them when the two daughters figured in a rivalry between one man.
Chiu saw the story similar to her life story/
“So it’s kinda challenging for me to play the second family, kasi sila yung parang hindi masyadong pinapansin,” Kim explained.
She considered her dad’s character in the series a trait similar to his real dad, “Para siyang si Adam Wong.
“Kaya nga pag tinitingnan ko, pag nag-aarte kami, sabi ko, ‘Shucks, kawawa rin pala yung mga anak ng Papa ko, noh?’ Kasi pag first family, parang ikaw yung pinakamatapang. Now I understand what they were feeling,”
Kim describes her family as the typical Chinese-Filipino, “Marami kami. Mapagmahal lang yung Papa ko.
“And it really happens talaga, and accepted siya ng lahat ng wife, pero hindi ipinapakita. Pero in this teleserye, you can see what really happens inside a modern Chinese-Filipino family.”
The actress reconciled with her father in the year 2013 at the time when her mother was in a coma
Kim Chiu remembered the times she was competing for father’s attention.
