GMA Network’s latest primetime series Descendants of the Sun debuted last February 10, 2020. Descendants of the Sun is a Philippine remake of the much loved 2016 Korean drama of the same title. The new drama series replaced The Gift which aired its final episode on February 07, 2020.
Based on the latest available data from AGB Nielsen NUTAM report, the Descendants of the Sun‘s pilot episode almost surpassed Kapamilya rival Make It With You in the ratings game.
Descendants of the Sun registered a rating of 10.5%, a significant of 0.7% lower against Make It With You which garnered 11.2 %.
Even in the nationwide viewership survey, the newest Kapuso program didn’t manage to beat its rival.
Kantar Media reported a rating of 16% for Descendants of the Sun, while Make It With You’s rating spiked at 27%.
Starring Dingdong Dantes and Jennylyn Mercado, the pilot episode introduced the cast of the drama series.
The episode also marked the first encounter of Dr. Maxine Dela Cruz and Captain Lucas Manalo who met inside a grocery store. Dr. Maxine snatched a ballpen from Captain Lucas to save a man who was choking by doing a tracheostomy. However, their encounter did not end well because the beautiful doctor thought that the soldier was a hopeless pervert after helping her when she was about to stumble on the escalator.

Despite the lower ratings, Descendants of the Sun‘s pilot episode trended on Twitter. Much to the viewers’ surprise, the remake has exceeded their expectations.
Descendants of the Sun airs daily on GMA Network’s primetime line up after Anak ni Waray vs. Anak ni Biday.
