- Netizens slammed Cayetano’s hypocrisy after benefitting from ABS-CBN’s coverage.
House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano remains adamant about stalling deliberations for the franchise renewal bills of ABS-CBN.
In his latest pronouncements, the Taguig Congressman complained about ABS-CBN’s alleged unfair election coverage in 2016 saying the broadcast network favored some candidates.
“Can anyone honestly say, after watching the coverage of the network during the 2010 and 2016 elections, that ABS-CBN did not take sides and favor any candidate? Or that personalities and politicians, who through the years have had strong affinity with the station, do not receive undue advantage during campaign season?” he said.
“It is primarily for this reason that we do not see the urgency of a hearing at this point. It will be tedious, contentious, and it threatens to drain the momentum that has allowed the 18th Congress to accomplish so much,” he added.
Cayetano, who ran for Vice President as President Rodrigo Duterte’s running mate but lost, has accused ABS-CBN of allegedly giving more airtime to other candidates.
On Cayetano’s accusation that ABS-CBN gave an unfair advantage to other candidates, netizen and election lawyer @13thFool tweeted a screenshot on a Rappler news article detailing Cayetano’s life story in ABS-CBN’s Maalaala Mo Kaya.

ABS-CBN’s MMK has also featured the life story of their father the late Sen. Rene Cayetano in 2010.
Cayetano, on his YouTube channel, even shared a clip of the episode in 2015 thanking ABS-CBN and MMK for producing their father’s life story.
Aside from MMK, the Cayetano siblings also guested on Kapamilya late-night talk show Gandang Gabi Vice in 2013. During that time, Alan Cayetano was a re-electionist senator.
Meanwhile, columnist Boo Chanco pointed out that ABS-CBN paved the way for the Cayetano dynasty when it gave the late Sen. Rene Cayetano a show which was eventually used as a vehicle for the Cayetano siblings in politics.
Maybe it is ABS-CBN’s fault. It created a Cayetano political dynasty when it gave Alan’s father, Rene, and sister a show, Companyero y Companyera and dramatized Cayetano’s life on Maala ala mo kaya. His brother was also a director at the network. It happens. https://t.co/zCIt5d9Yez

Here are other comments from the netizens regarding Cayetano’s latest pronouncements.
Sana if we can go back in time, sana hindi na lang kinuha ng abscbn si rene cayetano sa programang "Compañeto y Compañera" para walang career ang buong cayetanos ngayon sa politika knowing ito pa ang igaganti sa kanila. Defend Press Freedom.

no never felt it. there were debates and each of the candidates got equal time. some abs cbn artists supported duterte, as expected corina supported her husband. some supported grace. ang lakas naman ng pakiramdam mo. but is that a reason do deny the franchise?
