Archrival networks ABS-CBN and GMA network both claimed number 1 standing in national ratings for the month of January 2020.
In the latest numbers from Kantar Media and AGB Nielsen, the country’s 2 largest media networks claimed separate leadership in nationwide ratings.
Using Kantar’s rating report, ABS-CBN started the new decade with a soaring 38% overall ratings for January 2020, 6% higher than its competitor GMA network which scored 32%.
In Metro and Mega Manila, ABS-CBN also beat GMA Network at 38% vs 32% and 33% vs 27% respectively. The Kapamilya network also won the other geographic areas of Total Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
In Total Luzon, ABS-CBN registered an average audience share of 35% vs 34%. Visayas, on the other hand, gave a more significant lead at 49% vs 27% and Mindanao at 44% against 28%.
Aside from the overall ratings and geographic areas, the Kapamilya network also won all programming blocks from morning to primetime.
For the morning block (6 am-12 nn), ABS-CBN registered an average audience share of 34%, leading GMA by 7% at 27%. Noontime (12NN-3PM) was also captured by the Kapamilya channel with 37% beating 33%. And for the afternoon block (3PM-6PM), ABS-CB edged out GMA by 2% at 39% versus 37%.
Meanwhile, for the most important block, the primetime (6PM-12MN), ABS-CBN scored an average of 41% audience against GMA’s 33% or a margin of 8%.
ABS-CBN’s January 2020 ratings leadership was topped by its long-running action drama teleserye “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” which scored 30.3%, followed by LizQuen’s new teleserye “Make it With You” with 27.5%. And on 3rd was Judy Ann Santos’ dz which strongly ended its run at 27%.
GMA Network’s claim
While ABS-CBN claimed leadership in Kantar, GMA network boast of its leadership based on AGB Nielsen NUTAM survey.
In their latest numbers for January 2020, GMA said it reclaimed the top spot for national ratings after scoring 34.7% against ABS-CBN’s 31.7%.
The Kapuso network also recorded its lead in Urban Luzon and Mega Manila. GMA registered a rating of 36.7% vs 29.1% of ABS-CBN in Urban Luzon and 37.1% vs 27% in Mega Manila.
For programming blocks, GMA also claimed leadership in the morning block at 28.8% vs27.4%. Afternoon block was also led by GMA by 6.3% at 37.7% vs 31.4% and the viewer rich primetime at 34.8% vs 33.6%.
GMA network’s January 2020 leadership was spearheaded by KMJS followed by Magpakailanman, 24 Oras, Pepito Manaloto, Daig Kayo ng Lola Ko, Daddy’s Gurl, The Gift, Beautiful Justice, Amazing Earth, One of the Baes, Prima Donnas, Eat Bulaga, Kapuso Movie Night, 24 Oras Weekend, Magkaagaw, Wowowin, Bubble Gang, Madrasta, Tadhana, and Imbestigador.
