- Tito Sotto wants people to reject fake news in 2020.
- Tito Sotto recently mistakenly believed fake news proliferated by Thinking Pinoy.
Senate President Tito Sotto bared his wish for 2020 and that is for Filipinos not to fall for fake news anymore.
Sotto shared his wish via his Twitter account on the last day of December 2019.
“New Year’s wish: hwag na sanang pumatol ang mga Pilipino sa fake news!” he tweeted.

Sotto’s latest statement came on the heels of his recent mistake of believing RJ Nieto’s fake news about the US ban on officials involved in the unjust detention of Senator Leila De Lima.
In his tweet, Sotto said there’s no such thing as a ban on PH officials in the US 2020 budget as reported by Nieto in a Manila Bulletin article.
“Wala naman Pala sa US 2020 budget yun so called ban. Ang daming nabola!” said Sotto.

In the article, Nieto said De Lima and her supporters’ claim that her accusers will be banned from entering the US after President Donald Trump signed their 2020 budget is fake.
Nieto’s lengthy article focused on the final text of the 2020 US budget where he said De Lima’s claim was nowhere to be found.
Unfortunately, Nieto’s article was proven false when Presidential Spokesperson Sal Panelo himself revealed that the ban is true as confirmed by Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Romualdez.
“I was talking to US Ambassador Babe Romualdez. Sinasabi yang chineck daw nila ‘yong batas, meron nga raw. Totoo ‘yong ban,” said Panelo.
