- Yam Concepcion continues to prove herself as an actress
- She is proud of her past as sexy star but now she’s done with it
Yam Concepcion was first known for her role in the erotic thriller movie Rigodon directed by Erik Matti and later on for the 2013 daytime television series Dugong Buhay alongside Ejay Falcon and Arjo Atayde.
It was with her role as’Jade Flores-Bartolome in the ABS-CBN Primetime Bida evening block ‘Halik’ from 2018-2019 that Yam achieved amazing popularity—or notoriety. She played as Lino’s (Jericho Rosales) unfaithful wife so effectively that Jade became the subject of memes online.
But even if she found success doing sexy roles, Yam hasn’t always been pleased by how some people view actresses like her.
“Once you’ve done a sexy role, people think you’re uneducated, desperate, and cheap, even if they don’t know you at all,” Yam stated in a 2015 interview when asked about her experience with her first project
She added, “I’m a college graduate, and Viva had courted me for a year before I decided to do my first acting project.”
For the first month of 2020, Yam returns to the big screen for her first horror movie Nightshift under Viva Films.

In an interview, the actress said is thankful for all the blessings she is receiving.
“Ang hirap kasi maging choosy eh, kasi parang wala pa ako doon sa level na ‘yun para mamili ako ng mga roles. Sa akin lang, basta maganda (ang role) at kung interesado ako at tingin ko mabibigay ko ang 100 percent ko, then tatanggapin ko,” she said.
Yam is always grateful for her experiences as she looked back to where she started as sexy star.
“Everything happens for a reason. Siguro nagbigay daan sa akin ‘yung mga ‘yun kung nasaan na ako ngayon. Learning experience na lang siya,” she explained.
“Tapos na ako doon. Nagsimula ako doon, at hindi ko ikinakahiya ‘yun, I’ve done a sexy drama before and I’m done with it.”
She added, “Kasi noong time na ‘yun nagsisimula pa lang ako eh. Wala akong idea kung ano ba talaga ang nangyayari sa industriyang ito, so I really don’t have an idea.
“Tinanggap ko ‘yung ganung mga projects noon kasi I trusted my management sa career path na gusto nila para sa akin at naniniwala ako na naging mabuti ang lahat nang iyon para sa akin,” she said.
Nightshift directed by Yam Laranas, showing on January 22 in cinemas nationwide.
