- Maria Ressa clapped back at Senator Sherwin Gatchalian’s twitter tirade.
Over the weekend, journalist Maria Ressa and Senator Sherwin Gatchalian had a twitter showdown after the latter accused the former of defaming the Philippines.
“Galing nito! Wala nang ibang ginawa kundi siraan bansa natin,” he wrote.

Gatchalian’s tweet was in response to Ressa saying the Philippines was “the pretri dish for testing mass manipulation.”
In response, Ressa questioned Gatchalian’s accomplishments in the Senate. She also asked about the Senator’s independence, values, and principles and what is he doing to protect them.
“Dear Sen @stgatchalian, what have you accomplished? Where have you shown your independence? After all, you work for the people, right? What principles and values do you stand for? How far would you go to protect them?” Ressa tweeted.

Netizens quickly joined the thread, slamming Gatchalian’s trolling behavior.
Some even posted a screenshot of the Senator’s old tweets showing his admiration for Ressa and Rappler.
Twitter user @wawam posted a photo of Gatchalian’s March 2014 tweet saying he’s glad to finally meet Maria and that he’s a big fan of [Rappler].
