Commenters immediately shared their excitement about the upcoming Kapuso show. Most of them were happy, ecstatic and others nostalgic about the popular animated series.
Voltes V has been one of GMA Network’s most popular and successful animated series. It was first aired on GMA in English on May 5, 1978. However, on August 27, 1979, then-President Ferdinand Marcos banned the show through Interim Board of Censors for Motion Pictures (IBCMP) Memorandum-Circular No. 13-79 citing the shows’ “harmful effects on children.”
In 1999, Voltes V returned to GMA in English and Tagalog dub. And in 2017, in connection with the celebration of its 40th anniversary, a new Tagalog dub of Voltes V was made by GMA featuring the voices of Kapuso celebrities Bea Binene, Derrick Monasterio, Jak Roberto, Hiro Peralta, and Ken Chan.
Ruru Madrid as lead star
Meanwhile, according to some published reports, Kapuso actor Ruru Madrid is set to take the lead role of Steve Armstrong.
“May plano ang GMA 7 na i-produce ang Philippine version ng Voltes V, ang sikat na Japanese anime television series noong 1977. Ang balita na isa si Ruru Madrid sa mga napipisil na magbida sa local version ng Voltes V at si Mark Reyes ang posibleng direktor ng proyekto,” quoted from Pilipino Star Ngayon’s Seen Scene article.
